Falls Church News-Press
VerifiedNewspaper
The Falls Church News-Press is a weekly merchandiser based in Falls Church, Virginia. The periodical was founded in 1991 by Owner/Editor-in-Chief Nicholas F. Benton, who has repeatedly referred to it in editorials as the City's "paper-of-record." The periodical has its roots in his presentation to the local Chamber of Commerce, where, according to his interview with Equality Virginia, he presented his plan to advertise the local companies' services. He left that night with the Chamber’s endorsement and a list of 250 businesses to approach. One hundred thirty agreed to support the periodical with their advertising. With a stack of their postcards pledging support as collateral, Benton secured seed money to start the Falls Church News-Press. Source

By Robert Reich (Former U.S. Treasury Secretary) I’m sorry to say that several Democratic senators appear willing to support the CLARITY Act—a sweeping pro-crypto bill that will be voted on next week. All they’re demanding is that Republicans agree to a few cosmetic changes such as a slight toughening of ethics rules, a modest expansion of law-enforcement authority, and a tad-bit strengthening of financial regulators. All worthwhile improvements, but they don’t cure the bill’s fundamental defects.

One of Falls Church’s favorite sons was knocking on doors Sunday in the Little City, reminding voters about the primary on August 4 and to please vote for him! Don Beyer is seeking his seventh term as the U.S. congressional representative from the Eighth District, which includes Falls Church, Alexandria, Arlington County, and parts of Fairfax County.

By Adam Roy Falls Church Little League “Go out and win this game for every FCKLL player that came before you.” Those were the pre-game words from Assistant Coach Jon Labukas. And that’s exactly what the Falls Church Kiwanis Little League Majors All Stars “White” Team did.

America at 200, When I First Met Reagan
The next 50 years? I am old enough to vividly recall 50 years ago when the U.S. celebrated its 200th anniversary. It was 1976 and I was living in San Francisco. A group of us were gathered on the big night to go to the rooftop of an apartment building and watch a huge fireworks show. But it was very overcast and we saw almost nothing. What were we thinking about America at that point, being so much younger then?
A Penny for Your Thoughts 7-9-2026
The disclosure last week that Donald Trump’s family increased its wealth by $1.4 billion in 2025, largely through the dubious cryptocurrency market, was stunning in its dollar amount, but not surprising in actuality. Trump is all about deals and his transactional approach always benefits his own pocket rather than the American people. Example one: he took his first flight on the “new” Air Force One the same week his financial disclosure was filed.
Movie Review: Young Washington
The timing could not be more fitting for Angel Studios’ July 3rd release of a historical drama centered on the formative years of a founding father. The PG-13 film features a seasoned supporting cast, including Mary-Louise Parker as George Washington’s mother, Kelsey Grammer as Lord Thomas Fairfax, and Ben Kingsley as Gov. Robert Dinwiddie. At 22, relative newcomer William Franklyn-Miller capably carries the film in the title role.
America at 250: Its Next 250 Years
As we celebrate our first 250 years, here are some thoughts on what the next 250 years for the U.S. may bring: The next 250 years will likely transform the U.S. from an aging, politically fractured nation into a post-scarcity, technologically integrated superpower. 1. Demographic Transformation – The U.S. demographic landscape will be entirely reshaped.
Our Man In Arlington
How was your 4th of July? This week I have decided to write “a day in my life” column, specifically about my July 4th. I know that might seem a bit immodest, but I figure that, in 50 years, when Americans are celebrating the tricentennial, Arlingtonians from 2076 might want to know what was happening during the semiquincentennial of the Declaration. If they toss in a few relevant words into their AI machine, maybe this column will pop up on their computer.
