On this year’s World Cancer Day, the team of Molecular Oncology launched a writing competition entitled “Intercepting cancer before it begins: A 2050 perspective” inviting contributions exploring how advances in science, medicine, technology, and public health could transform cancer prevention by the year 2050. We thank all participants for contributing high-quality pieces.

The 2026 FEBS Congress highlighted the value of international scientific collaboration through a series of activities jointly organised by FEBS and the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (KSBMB). Building on the partnership established last year, FEBS and KSBMB came together in Maastricht to promote scientific exchange and strengthen connections between European and Asian researchers.

The call for FEBS Supported Science and Society Events that will take place between September-December 2026 is now open. The deadline for applications is 31 August 2026. This scheme offers financial support for events organized by FEBS Constituent Societies, aiming to increase public understanding of molecular life sciences.

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 PROBio-LatAm Fellowships Programme, an initiative supporting mobility, training and scientific exchange for researchers in the molecular life sciences across Latin America and Europe. This year’s fellowships have been awarded to researchers from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Mexico, who will undertake research visits in laboratories across FEBS countries as part of the programme.

The first set of FEBS Advanced Courses for 2027 has been approved (from Round 1 of the 2027 call for applications). They include lecture courses (some co-funded with EMBO), workshops, and combined practical/lecture courses. More details  will be added soon, but we wanted to annouce them now so you can reserve the dates. More courses for 2027 will be approved later this year, from Round 2 of the 2027 call, which has a deadline for course organizers of 1 September 2026.

FEBS congratulates Professor Irene Díaz-Moreno on her election to the EMBO Membership, one of the highest honours in the molecular life sciences community. She is a member of the FEBS Executive Committee and Board of Trustees and serves as Chair of the FEBS Excellence Awards and Fellowships Committee.

FEBS is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 FEBS Excellence Awards. The FEBS Excellence Awards support outstanding early-career group leaders in the molecular life sciences by providing funding to advance ambitious research projects. Each award provides €100,000 over three years to support the purchase of research equipment and consumables. The 2026 application round is open from 15 June to 15 August 2026. Who can apply?

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 PROBio-Africa Fellowships Programme, an initiative supporting mobility, training and scientific exchange for researchers in the molecular life sciences across Africa and Europe. This year’s fellowships have been awarded to researchers from Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa and Tunisia, who will undertake research visits in laboratories across FEBS countries as part of the programme.

Over a hundred talented young scientists from 30 different countries have been selected to participate in the 25th edition of the FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum (YSF), taking place in Wageningen, the Netherlands, on 2–4 July 2026, just before and in conjunction with the 50th FEBS Congress in Maastricht.

Are you interested in organizing a course on your research area of expertise? The FEBS Advanced Courses are focused scientific courses on advanced topics in the molecular life sciences. They are organized to provide research updates, training, and networking for scientists working in a similar area. The FEBS Advanced Courses have a strong educational element, that makes them especially valuable to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
