FEBS is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 FEBS Excellence Awards. The FEBS Excellence Awards support outstanding early-career group leaders in the molecular life sciences by providing funding to advance ambitious research projects. Each award provides €100,000 over three years to support the purchase of research equipment and consumables. The 2026 application round is open from 15 June to 15 August 2026. Who can apply?

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 PROBio-Africa Fellowships Programme, an initiative supporting mobility, training and scientific exchange for researchers in the molecular life sciences across Africa and Europe. This year’s fellowships have been awarded to researchers from Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa and Tunisia, who will undertake research visits in laboratories across FEBS countries as part of the programme.

Over a hundred talented young scientists from 30 different countries have been selected to participate in the 25th edition of the FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum (YSF), taking place in Wageningen, the Netherlands, on 2–4 July 2026, just before and in conjunction with the 50th FEBS Congress in Maastricht.

Are you interested in organizing a course on your research area of expertise? The FEBS Advanced Courses are focused scientific courses on advanced topics in the molecular life sciences. They are organized to provide research updates, training, and networking for scientists working in a similar area. The FEBS Advanced Courses have a strong educational element, that makes them especially valuable to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

The FEBS Anniversary Prize of the Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie (GBM) is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology or related sciences by the upcoming generation of senior scientists, with the awardees selected from researchers under 40 years of age invited to give a lecture at one of the symposia or workshops held during a FEBS Congress. The award comprises a certificate and €2000.

The Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) is pleased to announce that Prof. Francesco Bonomi, nominated by the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB), is the recipient of the 2026 Israel Pecht Award.

This new FEBS medal named in honour of Rita Levi-Montalcini will be awarded for the first time at the 50th FEBS Congress, to Nobel laureate Emmanuelle Charpentier.

The Laboratoire d’Ingénierie des Systèmes Macromoléculaires in Marseille will host the 2027 conference The FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE conferences are interdisciplinary, three-day events organised by and for young researchers —featuring a scientific symposium, career day and outreach activities— that bring together up to 300 participants from around the world.

Late-breaking abstract submission for the 50th FEBS Congress will provide another chance for scientists to play an active part in the event through a poster presentation, and help bring some of the newest research findings to the Congress. Late-breaking abstracts accepted to the 50th FEBS Congress will be presented on the Congress website shortly before and during the Congress, and on the Congress app, and included in the FEBS Open Bio supplement of Congress abstracts.

Nominations are now open for the FEBS | EMBO Women in Science Award 2027, a joint initiative of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) and EMBO that recognises outstanding achievements by women scientists in the life sciences. Established in 2007, the award highlights the major contributions made by women researchers and aims to provide inspiring role models for future generations of scientists.
