This year marks the 10th edition of the European Risk Management Awards, which will once again bring us together to celebrate the best of the best in risk management. Ten editions on, the Awards remain a moment for the whole community to recognise the people, teams and associations driving the profession forward. The FERMA office in Brussels had the pleasure of welcoming its young and motivated risk professionals on 3 and 4 September 2026. After a few busy months working independently and collaboratively online – building on their thinking and work processes, and elaborating further on the knowledge and tools gained during the first gathering in May (including the butterfly diagram methodology) – the time had come to take the next steps. Project brings together risk, finance and sustainability experts to help unlock financing for preventative and adaptative climate measures. Brussels, 6 May 2026 – The Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) have today announced a joint initiave to address one of the most pressing challenges facing organisations today – how to finance climate resilience in a world of rapidly escalating climate risk.

The “Open Sesame” project, led by FERMA and the WBCSD, is a global initiative that aims to develop an innovative financing framework for climate resilience, with the aim of facilitating investment in preventive and adaptation measures before adverse climate events occur. It brings together key players from the fields of risk, insurance, finance and sustainability to bridge the gap between resilience needs and current financing mechanisms, which today focus primarily on post-disaster response.
