Fountain Hills will see a drastic change in weather heading into next week as highs are expected to linger around 100 with monsoon activity expected. The National Weather Service forecasts 20% chance of storms Friday night while Saturday’s high could reach 109 during the day with a 10% chance of rain that day and 50% at night. Sunday, however, will be a high of 104 with 40% chance of rain during the day, then activity picking up to 70% at night.

Overnight road closures planned in Fountain Hills
The Shea Boulevard widening project is entering its final stages. Following the placement of the second and final layer of pavement to the added third eastbound lane, the Town of Fountain Hills announced crews will close the road for markings and final work. Eastbound lanes on Shea Boulevard between Palisades and Fountain Hills boulevards will be temporarily closed overnight, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. on Sept. 3 and Sept. 8-10.

Desert Mountain Church’s worship leader teaches guitar to Fountain Hills youth
Fountain Hills residents who attend Desert Mountain Church may recognize Zane Webster as the worship leader at the church. But outside of the church’s walls, Webster has launched a local business where he teaches local youth and teens how to play guitar, sing and more. Webster is offering an hourly rate of $50 at his home church or $65 for in-home lessons to teach guitar and voice, according to a post he made on Facebook.

Crews clearing section of Fountain Hills wash
Crews have returned to Ashbrook Wash to clear a “small section” in way of sediment removed from town-owned dams. “This approach provides a cost-saving, value-engineering solution by shortening the haul distance, eliminating off-site disposal fees and reducing the cost of placing material that will ultimately be used as part of the Ashbrook Wash slope stabilization project,” Town Public Works Director Justin Weldy said.

Cornerstone Family Church in Fountain Hills is teaming up with Moms in Prayer International to hold weekly prayer sessions for local mothers in Fountain Hills. Local mothers meet from 1:30-2:30 p.m. every Wednesday at Cornerstone, 10215 N. Saguaro Blvd. Rene Cohen of Moms in Prayer said that those who participate are able to pray for their community and ease a mental burden of fall and the new school year.
