The Los Angeles Dodgers placed catcher Dalton Rushing on the 10-day injured list on Sunday due to right elbow discomfort. The move, which was retroactive to Saturday, made for a brief return to the ballclub for Rushing, who was reinstated from the injured list when MLB rosters were expanded last Tuesday. He spent nearly a month on the IL with a partial tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow but did not undergo surgery.

Demond Williams Jr. threw for one touchdown and ran for another as No. 17 Washington opened its season with a 24-10 victory over visiting Washington State in the Apple Cup on Sunday afternoon in Seattle. Jayden Limar rushed for an 11-yard touchdown with 2:18 remaining to help seal the victory. Williams was 24-of-35 passing for 268 yards and rushed for a team-high 61 yards on seven carries.

Scott McLaughlin ended his 2026 IndyCar season with a long-sought victory at the Mission Foods Grand Prix of Monterey before Alex Palou lifted the trophy for the series championship Sunday in Monterey, Calif. Last week, Palou clinched his fourth straight IndyCar championship and fifth in six years with one race to go. The Spaniard won six races and finished the season with 631 points, 86 more than runner-up Kyle Kirkwood.

Oakland native Bryan Woo continued his career-long mastery of his former hometown team with eight shutout innings, Cal Raleigh and J.P. Crawford had RBI singles in a two-run fourth, and the Seattle Mariners avoided a four-game sweep at the hands of the visiting Athletics with a 2-0 victory Sunday afternoon. The win, coupled with a Houston Astros (73-71) loss, allowed the Mariners (67-77) to move within six games of the top spot in the American League West.

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani wasn’t in the starting lineup Sunday night against the Washington Nationals, marking his fourth consecutive missed start due to right biceps, left knee and neck injuries. Thus far, the Dodgers have resisted placing Ohtani on the 15-day injured list as required for two-way players, though manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that continued absences would make that a bigger possibility.

Fernando Tatis Jr., Jake Cronenworth and Manny Machado belted back-to-back-to-back homers to start the bottom of the first inning Sunday and the San Diego Padres hung on for a 4-3 win over the visiting New York Yankees. It marked the second time in franchise history the Padres hit three straight homers to open a game. The first time was April 13, 1987 against the San Francisco Giants’ Roger Mason. Marvell Wynne, Tony Gwynn and John Kruk did it that night.

Charlie Woods battled to a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass to finish in a tie for eighth at The Junior Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Woods went 1-under 215 over the course of the three-day event, finishing seven shots behind winner JP Lynch of Austin, Texas. Lynch shot up the leaderboard with a 6-under 66 on Sunday to finish 8 under for the weekend and beat Brady Barnum (final-round 68) by one stroke.

Nolan Gorman homered to cap a six-run fifth inning, Cooper Hjerpe struck out six in four spotless innings in his major league debut and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Colorado Rockies 10-8 on Sunday in Denver. Ivan Herrera and Alec Burleson each had three hits and Thomas Saggese and Joshua Baez finished with two hits apiece for St. Louis (72-72), which remained four games behind Arizona for the third National League wild-card berth. George Soriano got the final out for his third save.

The New York Giants and veteran backup quarterback Jameis Winston have agreed to a two-year, $13 million extension, according to multiple reports on Sunday. Winston is now under contract with New York through the 2028 season. Winston is the backup behind second-year pro Jaxson Dart but is viewed as a team leader. This is his second campaign with New York; last season, he passed for 567 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in three games (two starts).

Team Spirit rolled to another title Sunday when they defeated MOUZ 3-1 in the grand final of the BLAST Open Fall 2026 in Porto, Portugal. Two weeks removed from winning the Counter-Strike 2 championship at the Esports World Cup, Team Spirit completed a nearly perfect run through the BLAST Open Fall event. They won their group without dropping a map and beat Team Falcons 2-0 in Saturday’s semifinal match before finally dropping a map during the grand final.
