Five For Howling

The Tucson Roadrunners season ended earlier than many of us anticipated. After falling to the Calgary Wranglers in a best-of-three first-round series in the Calder Cup Playoffs, much of the teams’ future remains shrouded in mystery. Back when reports were first emerging about the Arizona Coyotes’ pending move to Salt Lake City, additional reports were coming out about the future of the club’s AHL franchise.

Mid-April has arrived, and the whiteout returns to Arizona! That’s right, playoff hockey is back. Today, the Tucson Roadrunners begin their journey to win the AHL’s coveted Calder Cup Championship. They are set to start this postseason campaign against the Calgary Wranglers. To get you Arizona hockey fans up to date here is everything you need to know about this year’s AHL Playoffs. The Tucson Roadrunners finished second in the Pacific Division this year, just behind the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

It is difficult to start this because it feels like I have already written it. A while ago, SBNation decided to let their hockey sites go, and it briefly seemed like I would be cut loose, never to write again. While I am incredibly grateful to the people who donated to the GoFundMe, shared content this past season, and helped facilitate the move to an independent Five For Howling, it is time for this to end for me. It is all over today. Not only is the Arizona Coyotes’ 2023-24 season coming to an end tonight in a match against the Edmonton Oilers, but the team’s time in Arizona will also be over. The Desert Dogs’ have been a significant part of so many people’s lives and have been a roller coaster this season. There have been considerable ups and downs as we saw a squad of veterans help shepherd the growth of younger prospects making their way in the NHL.

The future of the Arizona Coyotes may be bleak, but that isn’t stopping the players from giving their all. The Desert Dogs are 3-1-0 on their current road trip after back-to-back overtime wins against the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers. Neither game was perfect, but they were solid wins against two of the top teams in the Western Conference. In both matchups, the Coyotes did a good job at scoring first, only to see their opponents come back and tie the game.

The Arizona Coyotes’ final road trip has been exciting so far. They started with a commanding win over San Jose, only to get destroyed by the Seattle Kraken in their second game. Then, on Wednesday, after allowing the Vancouver Canucks to come back from a 3-1 deficit, Logan Cooley notched his 19th of the season to give the Coyotes their first win over the Canucks this season. It was an excellent night for Dylan Guenther, who was involved in all four of the Coyotes’ goals.

After an excellent start, the Arizona Coyotes’ season’s final road trip hit a snag. The Coyotes ran into a hot netminder in Philipp Grubauer last night and fell 5-0 to the Seattle Kraken. The first two times the Kraken and Coyotes met, they were tight games that needed overtime or a shoot-out to settle things. That was not the case last night, as the Kraken got two early goals and then kept going for a full 60 minutes.

The Arizona Coyotes’ road trip continues with a trip to the Northwest. The Coyotes will play a back-to-back, with a match against the Seattle Kraken tonight and a trip to Vancouver tomorrow. The Coyotes have all of the momentum going into tonight’s game. They followed up a comeback win against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday with a 5-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. Saturday’s game featured another strong period for the Yotes.

The Arizona Coyotes must feel good about themselves as they head out on the road. The Yotes have all the momentum as they head out on their final road trip, starting with a matinee matchup against the San Jose Sharks today. The Coyotes ended their previous seven-game homestand with one of the most impressive comebacks in franchise history.

The Arizona Coyotes’ homestand ends tonight with a match against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Coyotes fell 2-1 to the Vancouver Canucks in their last game and are running out of chances to put on a show for the home crowd this season. While the game may not have ended the way the Coyotes would have hoped, it wasn’t a complete loss. The Canucks are one of the top teams in the NHL this season, and the Coyotes did a good job of keeping the game close.
