Can you talk about your role at HSBC and how it has evolved since you joined in 2016? I lead Global Intermediary Services, which is part of Global FX, Commodities & Emerging Markets Rates, within HSBC’s Markets and Securities Services (MSS) business. I sit on the Global FX, Emerging Markets Rates & Commodities Executive Committee, running the fee-based (or pre-agreed spread) business, which provides pre-trade, execution, and post-trade FX Services.

I am grateful to all the women who have paved the way for greater equality. It is inspiring to know the challenges these women faced for me to be where I am today. As a mother to a 15-year-old girl, I am committed to creating a space for people like my daughter to excel, the same way these women have done for me. A lot of progress has been made for women in financial services since I started, but there is still work to be done. Women make up about 30% of the workforce in fintech.

In February 2024 Citi said that it had successfully completed a proof of concept on tokenization of private funds along with Wellington Management and WisdomTree. Tokenization is the creation of a digital representation of physical assets such as real estate or financial securities or intangible assets such as identity or data, typically on a distributed ledger.

Exchanges are well aware of the value of their data and are charging higher non display fees. Volumes continue to grow, requiring more storage, more ram, and better technology to manage this data, all equating to higher costs.

Fund managers outside the US may need to change the timing of their foreign exchange trades to meet the shorter settlement cycle for US securities that are being introduced in May. The standard settlement cycle for most US broker-dealer transactions in securities will be reduced from two business days after a trade, T+2, to T+1 on 28 May 2024 in the US and on the previous day in Canada.

Who’s bidding? The tender for European consolidated tapes (CT) is up for grabs next year, with a decision on bonds scheduled for 25 July 2025 and equities following a day later on the 26 July. While there’s a lot of conversation around the tapes, it’s still not clear exactly who will be bidding. EuroCTP, a consortium of European exchanges, is all set to bid for equities—but they don’t yet have a technology partner.
