Is there a car with no compromises? On the surface, the Audi SQ8 seems like one. It’s a large luxury SUV with room for five, classy styling with a sporty undertone, an interior with acres of carbon fibre, leather and suede, and most importantly, a stonking twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine. This is a car for the driver who wants it all – space for the family, exquisite details and plenty of performance to boot.

The Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y are two of the most popular EVs today. The performance variants of both models are also some of the fastest vehicles around, not just in the EV segment but overall. With a 0-100km/h sprint time of around 3 seconds, they rival even the world’s fastest supercars – in straight line acceleration at least. Perhaps a little tightening of handling is all the Model 3 and Model Y need to match that explosive acceleration.

The Toyota Supra and Nissan Z, two of Japan’s most iconic performance nameplates, are no strangers to each other. They have been on a collision course on numerous occasions before and they are here once again, going head-to-head. This time though, it’s a little different. The temperature is dialled up a notch as the hardcore versions are out to play.

The Polestar 4 coupé has been upgraded for 2026 with a number of under the skin improvements aimed at refining the driving experience of the full-electric  SUV soupe. Rear motor and Dual motor variants feature a recalibrated chassis with high-capacity passive dampers, new spring and anti-roll bar settings, and polyurethane rebound stops replacing internal rebound coil springs. The driving experience is further enhanced by improved steering precision.

Think Lexus performance and cars like the LFA, LC, IS F, RC F and GS F come to mind. Those are are decent size vehicles, certainly not small. The Lexus performance line-up has never been applied to compact models, until now. Meet the Lexus LBX Morizo RR. A bit of a mouthful but there’s plenty to digest behind its name. First, the LBX is currently Lexus’ smallest model, a small SUV that plays against the likes of Audi Q2, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Mini Countryman. Then comes the interesting bit.

The Subaru Forester remains a unique proposition even in today’s saturated mid-size SUV market. Its formula is simple, a boxer engine for lower centre of gravity, an always-on symmetrical all-wheel drive for assured handling and an upright body shape for vast interior space, all backed by the brand’s renown reliability. It’s arguably the most versatile and off-road capable SUV in the segment.

For over 5 decades, the BMW 5 Series has been synonymous with a well engineered and all rounded executive saloon car. It’s one of the most respected nameplates in the car business. Together with close rivals Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6, the 5 Series has defined the luxury midsize sedan segment. It’s also one of BMW’s most important models, constantly tasked with showcasing some of the German brand’s latest innovation and technology.

Twenty five years since the last of the fifth generation Honda Prelude rolled off the production line, its successor is now finally upon us. The all-new sixth generation Prelude puts Honda back into the compact sports coupe game, rivalling the likes of the Toyota GR86, Subaru BRZ and Mazda MX-5. The Prelude is more expensive, though.

If there were a hunt for the best-looking large SUV currently on the market, the Range Rover Sport would easily take the crown. Designed by the same folks who brought us the Velar, Defender and Evoque, the Range Rover Sport is a fine example of a classy, restraint and confident SUV design that looks absolutely spot on from every angle.

When it’s a winning formula, don’t change it. That appears to be Mazda’s approach with the new-generation CX-5 – the Japanese brand’s top-selling SUV model and second most popular model after the Mazda3. The company understands what made the CX-5 rhyme with mid-size SUV buyers and it’s the combination of good value proposition, attractive packaging and proven reliability. With the 2026 Mazda CX-5, it has stuck with the same principles.
