According to local media, nearly 300 people were on board the vessel. Erhan Arikli, public works minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, told Turkish state television that the ship had set out from Kyrenia and headed to the Turkish port of Taucu when it capsized.

Scranton Police say detectives with the department's Special Victims Unit began investigating on August 24 after receiving a report of an incident in the 500 block of Cherry Street in South Scranton. Police say the investigation involved allegations of child endangerment and simple assault.
