AMES (AP) -- Jaylen Raynor threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as Iowa State opened the season with a 38-10 win over Southeast Missouri State on Saturday. It was the first win at Iowa State for new coach Jimmy Rogers, who was hired in December after Matt Campbell left to take the head coaching job at Penn State. IOWA CITY -- Kamari Moulton ran for a career-high 183 yards and two touchdowns and No. 22 Iowa’s defense shut down Northern Illinois in a 40-0 victory Saturday in the season opener for both teams. Moulton, Iowa’s leading rusher last season, passed his previous career high of 114 yards in the first quarter, when he had 132 yards with touchdown runs of 50 and 37 yards. “I really worked in the offseason on just being able to run, just being more confident in myself,” Moulton said.

Wyatt Gelder, a junior, ran 11 times for 69 yards with a touchdown, as senior Kaden Dean added 35 yards. South Hamilton put up 135 yards rushing as a team on 41 totes.

Webster City has received a $20,000 Creative Places Accelerator grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). Janet Adams, Tim Adams, Mo Seamonds and Amelia Oliver wrote the grant application, following up work done by Anna Woodward, when she was Director of the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce. The team has named the project "Spark WC." Tim Adams built a wooden booth that will be used at "pop-up" events. The Spark team promises dates and times for these will be announced soon.

1926 Murray McMurray wins on birds at State Fair Murray McMurray, who exhibited eleven birds in the state fair poultry show, received eight prizes.
