PHOENIX FOOTBALL FEATURED IN NEW PROMOTIONAL VIDEO FOR COBANK
A new promotional video released this week by CoBank — a cooperative that provides financial services to rural infrastructure providers — features video shot at a Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy football game last fall. The footage was gathered at the Phoenix's first-round playoff game against Garretson on Oct. 23, 2025, and features action on the field, on the sidelines and in the stands. Watch the video below.

COUNCIL ACTION SETS UP POSSIBLE LITIGATION AGAINST DPS
The city of Freeman may soon take legal action against Dakota Protein Solutions (DPS), the rendering plant just southeast of town that has had odor problems since it opened in late 2024. Although the facility sits just across the Hutchinson/Turner county line and falls under Turner County’s jurisdiction, the Freeman City Council is pursuing litigation over nuisance issues that have sparked ongoing frustration — and outright anger — in the larger community.
FA UPDATE: 'WE HAVE TO REMEMBER WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER'
Matthew Tschetter has a good ear for listening and a sharp mind for ideas — two self-described gifts that have served him well over the past four months as he has settled into his role as Freeman Academy’s first-ever executive director. Tschetter began his work July 1 — six weeks after the school held its final last day in the 125-year history of the institution — and has since been taking steps toward establishing a possible new mission for the 501(c)(3).
SCHMECKFEST NIXED FOR 2027
It’s official: There will be no Schmeckfest in 2027. Matthew Tschetter, executive director of Freeman Academy, announced this week that Freeman Academy will forgo next year’s “festival of tasting,” a by-product of the Jan. 30, 2026 decision to close the school as a 1-12 educational institution.
