The Oklahoma Sooners outlasted the Baylor Bears on Saturday to win the Big 12 and solidify their argument for inclusion in the College Football Playoff. A big reason they’re here in quarterback Jalen Hurts, a fourth-year senior who transferred from Alabama after it became clear he wouldn’t see much playing time behind Tua Tagovailoa. By all accounts and despite his reputation, Alabama head coach Nick Saban had no hard feelings about Hurts leaving Alabama.

There’s been a surprising amount of litigation over political parody accounts on Twitter, from a lawsuit against Peoria, IL mayor Jim Ardis in 2014  (after Ardis dispatched local police to raid a house where the man operating the account lived) that led to a $125,000 settlement from the city to federal congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA) suing the @DevinCow account last year. And while there have been plenty of parody accounts that have popped up in sports, they haven’t led to as much litigation.

The rise of Bitcoin and other altcoins (such as Ethereum, USDT, Ripple, and others) has led to a new wave of digital currencies. These cryptocurrencies have recently generated considerable media attention and capital due to their capability of circumventing traditional banks and financial markets. It wasn’t easy, but Tennessee picked up a win in their season opener Monday night against Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Vols were sluggish on offense during the first half and struggled to stop the Yellow Jackets all game. Down 28-14 in the fourth quarter, Tennessee seemed all but dead in the water. But a Vols offensive surge along with a Georgia Tech turnover and two missed field goals allowed the Vols to force overtime where they eventually won the game 42-41.

Mauro Ranallo is leaving WWE. Ranallo had worked with WWE since early 2016, first as a play-by-play announcer on SmackDown from January 2016 through March 2017, then as a NXT commentator from June 2017 to the present. (That between his SmackDown and NXT stints came amidst talk of bullying from colleague John “Bradshaw” Layfield, and talk of Ranallo leaving the company entirely, but it ended with him finding a new role on NXT.) Now, though, Ranallo and WWE are supposedly parting on good terms.

One particularly unusual thing with ESPN relative to many other companies is that when they make a change with a prominent employee, it’s very rarely an outright firing. When we covered Curt Schilling’s public firing in 2016 (following anti-trans comments and a doubling down on them), there were only seven other outright firings of under-contract on-air talent that we could find, most for quite serious and/or embarrassing offenses.

The 2019/20 NFL season is now well underway and this has seen many fabulous games for sports fans to enjoy so far. While many games have gone the way NFL followers would have expected, some have really caused a stir with their final score. The results of some games have turned out to be much different than even experienced online bookmakers expected.
