I’m determined to earn Air France KLM Flying Blue Platinum elite status. Three features of Platinum status are particularly compelling to me: 1) better access to lowest-level awards (such as 60K for business class between the U.S. and Europe); 2) the ability to change and cancel awards for free; and 3) immunity from “Light Fare” restrictions (details here).

When Choice Privileges announced late last year that they were refreshing their loyalty program, one of the most eye-catching details was that members would gain the ability to transfer points to other members. What hadn’t been mentioned in the press release was whether there’d be a charge to do this, but we were able to confirm with our rep that transfers would indeed be free.

For the longest time, World of Hyatt has offered 500 bonus points per night when staying at its new properties. That feature of the loyalty program ended on October 1, but has been replaced with a different offer instead: double points on stays at new properties. Whether that’s an improvement or not will depend on how—and how much—you pay for your stays.

Chase Southwest cardholders get targeted with a spending offer each quarter. Seeing as October is the start of a new quarter, there’s a new spending offer. This latest one is giving a 25% bonus on points earned through spend when spending $3,000 or more by the end of the year. Keep an eye out on your emails if you’re a Capital One credit cardholder. That’s because some cardholders—possibly only business cardholders—are being targeted with an offer that’s giving up to $20 back as a statement credit on a dollar-for-dollar-spent basis which is on top of the standard rewards you’ll earn through the shopping portal.
