Frontline is an integrated social sector ecosystem dedicated to building collective power. We achieve this by leveraging a consulting practice, a nonprofit organization, and various capital investment vehicles, along with our extensive network and 20 years of experience. Our core mission is to support social sector organizations as they navigate transitions, challenges, and opportunities. This includes mobilizing essential resources, incubating innovative ideas, and strengthening vital ecosystems.

Dear Friends, Partners, and Visionaries, As we close the chapter on this year and look toward what’s next, I find myself reflecting on the origins of Frontline Solutions—and the origins of my own story. Our stories shape us long before we understand the lessons they hold. I grew up in Camden, New Jersey, an only child raised by a single mother whose brilliance stretched far beyond the opportunities available to her. We were poor in material wealth but rich in countless other ways.

At our 20th Anniversary in April, we announced the launch of Cadre, a coordinated, strategic intervention that equips equity-driven leaders and organizations with the tools, support, and collective infrastructure they need not only to withstand this moment but also to shape what comes next. Cadre represents our conviction that hope is still possible, and necessary, even in the face of strategic disorientation, organizational fatigue, leadership burnout, and deepening isolation.

In April, we gathered our cherished supporters and co-conspirators to commemorate two decades of Frontline Solutions. It was more than just an event; it felt like a family reunion, a testament to the bonds forged over the years that fuel our collective belief: together, we’re going to be alright. We were truly honored and humbled by all who chose to celebrate, reflect, and dream with us.

In Summer 2024, we released a learning report detailing our lessons over the last four years of the Elevate Initiative. We detailed a number of recommendations and feedback gathered from grantees and our own staff experience. The Elevate Initiative: Alumni Learning Year is our response to those recommendations. We were eager to consider what the next steps for this program could be.

Dear Friends and Colleagues, If you’re like me, you’re still making sense of this tumultuous season. Perhaps you’re reading post-election think pieces about what went wrong and where we go from here. Maybe you’re turning to the books and art that shaped your political consciousness—seeking lessons from the past to help you understand and confront our present challenges. Or maybe, along with many Black women, you’re taking time to grieve, rest, and tend to your community.

In 2024, the New Breath Foundation partnered with us to develop its strategic framework for the next phase of its work. Founded in 2017 by Eddy Zheng, the New Breath Foundation is rooted in AANHPI grassroots movements to prevent community violence, end mass incarceration and mass deportation, and advance cross-racial solidarity and racial justice. The month of August sorta gets slept on. I am from Alabama and live in Washington, DC, and so when I think of August, I think of how damn hot it is outside. On the bright side, August has more birthdays than any other month, and we observe International Beer Day, Coloring Book Day, and International Childfree Day.

Did you know Black philanthropy predates the tax code? Black community philanthropy existed far prior to the models of philanthropy and giving in the mainstream today and well before citizens were given tax breaks for charitable giving. The culture of giving among Black folks is not limited to a specific type of giving, nor can it be designated and compartmentalized in a reductive manner.
