The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM), in collaboration with the Undergraduate Sport and Exercise Medicine Society (USEMS), have announced Mr Nicolas Chapelot as the winner of the 2025 Essay Competition. Mr Chapelot is a medical student at University College London, originally from Cambridge, with a long-standing interest in sport and exercise. He competed in track sprinting at school and later played rugby at university.

We are delighted to present the first logo for your new College of Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine (CSEM). This is another landmark moment, highlighting the positive work being done as we progress closer to the formation of a new College. Please note, this logo announcement does not mark the formation of the new college, with BASEM and FSEM continuing to exist and operate as separate entities until the point of formation.

FSEM welcome the publication of the The Medical Training Review: Phase 1 diagnostic report. The extent of the listening events and stakeholder contributions to the report is evident and it strongly reflects and articulates the current state of medical training. This review highlights the areas which doctors in training and educators wish to retain, whilst recognising the significant challenges that currently exist and the tension between some of the reform requests.

And so, another Faculty Awards Ceremony has been and gone. On a wonderful sunny day in Edinburgh, over 130 new members, award winners and guests joined us at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to celebrate the achievements and success of our new members.

During the week we gather in Edinburgh for the 18th, and final, Annual Awards Ceremony of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM), we mark not only the achievements of our newest Fellows, Members, and Diplomates, but also a historic moment in the Faculty’s journey, as FSEM officially surpassed 1000 members this year.

The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM) and the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) are delighted to introduce the newly elected Board of the College of Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine (CSEM). This marks a significant milestone in the unification of our specialty and the establishment of the future College.

At the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM), we are committed to fostering a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across the Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) community. Our vision is to create a specialty that is welcoming, representative, and inclusive, where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive.

We are proud to unveil the freshly upgraded Moving Medicine website, marking a transformative leap forward for our initiative. This redesign will empower more healthcare professionals than ever before, through personalised consultations, integrated evidence-based tools, and dynamic local and global support to revolutionise physical activity promotion in clinical care.

BASEM and FSEM recently held an election for the new Board of Trustees at the College of Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine. Following a comprehensive voting process, we have now confirmed the first members of the new Board of Trustees. The vote was for the roles of President, two Vice-Presidents, an Honorary Secretary, and an Honorary Treasurer.

The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM) and the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) have come together to create a unified Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Vision Statement, marking a pivotal step forward as both organisations prepare to form the new College of Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine.
