The Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) is a non-profit umbrella organisation of veterinary organisations from 38 European countries. It was founded in 1975 and nowadays represents around 200,000 European veterinarians. The FVE strives to support veterinarians in delivering their professional responsibilities and representing the veterinary profession to the outside world. The FVE provides a platform for veterinarians across Europe to interact, to discuss and to develop position papers and professional guidelines. The current FVE motto is: "Veterinarians care for animals and people!" FVE publishes 4 times a year a newsletter which can be found on the FVE website. Source

On 22 May, the Council adopted new legislation establishing, for the first time, harmonised EU-wide standards for the welfare, breeding, identification, and traceability of cats and dogs. The new rules introduce common requirements for breeders, sellers, shelters, and online platforms involved in placing cats and dogs on the EU market. They also establish mandatory identification and registration systems to ensure full traceability across the European Union.

Encouraging progress has been made on the implementation of Article 106(1) of the Regulation (EU) 2019/6 on Veterinary Medicinal Products, often referred to as the “SPC issue”. Thanks to the many examples provided by FVE members (thank you all!)  and the webinar on 16 February, FVE was able to present practical proposals to the European Commission ahead of the 3 March meeting of the Standing Committee on Veterinary Medicinal Products.
