With national caregivers month coming to an end, this topic hits close to home for me, and maybe even some of you. Caregivers month is every November and it is a month of celebrating the millions of hardworking caregivers all around the world. No matter if you are a caregiver yourself or have a family member that uses a caregiver, I believe it is important to take time to gain more knowledge and spread awareness about caregivers.

By Christiane Jackson-Rogers A growing partnership between East Allen County Schools (EACS) and Sensory Awareness Education & Outreach, Inc., DBA Sensory Fun & Playroom, is opening new doors for high school students with intellectual disabilities. Through this collaboration, students attend job skills sessions at the Sensory Fun & Playroom, located in Georgetown Square, Fort Wayne, where they learn vocational, social, and sensory-regulation skills in a supportive environment.

Eight local senior care employees were among 100 employees from across the state of Indiana who were honored with the American Senior Communities (ASC) Quest for Excellence award for outstanding achievement. The annual awards banquet and ceremony, now in its 25th year, took place earlier this month at the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis.

Lutheran Health Network The American College of Cardiology has recognized Lutheran Hospital for its demonstrated expertise and commitment to treating patients with chest pain. Lutheran Hospital was awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI and Resuscitation in November based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

The Fort Wayne Housing Authority (FWHA) announced today a $23,500 contribution from Fort Financial Credit Union in support of FWHA’s Foundations For Success division, which focuses on education, workforce development, youth leadership, and family stability. “Supporting FWHA and the work they are doing in our community is central to our mission,” said Lyndee Warner, Vice President of Marketing at Fort Financial.

During this month, organizations like the March of Dimes and others promote education on prevention, support for affected families, and the importance of prenatal care. The official color for the month is purple, which symbolizes sensitivity.

The Allen County Public Library (ACPL) is once again partnering with the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory to celebrate the release of a new children’s book by local author and illustrator Talitha Shipman. The Conservatory has donated twenty copies of Shipman’s newest book “Fern’s Fairylight Express” to the Library’s collection. Each copy will circulate with a complimentary family pass to the Conservatory’s new exhibit inspired by the book.
