Nicoson announces 2026-27 schedule 7/13/2026 11:19:00 AM | Women's Golf A season after finishing third in its very first campaign in the Mountain West Conference Championship, Grand Canyon women's golf head coach Brent Nicoson has announced the 2026-27 schedule. GCU will compete in 10 regular season tournaments before the conference championship in April. An additional spring tournament could potentially be added prior to the conference showdown at Mission Hills CC in Rancho Mirage, California.

Junior left-handed pitcher Chase Frey was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the 15th round with the 454th overall selection, and junior right-handed pitcher Garrett Ahern was taken by the New York Yankees in the 16th round with the 488th overall pick. The selections extended GCU's streak to 13 consecutive drafts with at least one player picked, giving the program 32 MLB Draft selections since 2014.

Grand Canyon head baseball coach Steve Bieser announced the addition of Morgan Lunceford as the Lopes' director of baseball operations, continuing the buildout of his first GCU staff. Lunceford comes to Phoenix after serving as a player development staff member at Jacksonville State during the 2026 season, helping support one of the most accomplished years in Gamecocks history.

The connection that brought Dasha Biriuk 6,500 miles from her Ukrainian hometown to Grand Canyon this month is more about the brutal and best sides of humanity than basketball. Biriuk, GCU's newest guard after transferring from Ohio State, is reuniting with Lopes assistant coach Matt Shewmake, who was a stranger receiving a heart-tugging plea from a mutual acquaintance in 2022 to open a path that restored Biriuk's safety, education and basketball in America.

GCU beach volleyball to join The Big West 6/29/2026 8:00:00 AM | Beach Volleyball Grand Canyon beach volleyball will join The Big West beginning with the 2028 season, giving the Lopes a new conference home that includes some of the sport's strongest West Coast programs. As an affiliate member, GCU will join a conference that includes Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, CSUN, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Sacramento State and San José State.
