Search ArticlesREVIEW: Ombraz Viale
I’ve been rocking these every day, and man, they’re a game‑changer. The armless design uses a recycled marine‑grade nylon cord that wraps around your head, so no annoying arms digging into your ears or temples. On my commute, I just tighten them lightly, and they stay put through stops, starts, and even putting on a cap. Plus, they pack flat in any pocket or bag, the perfect grab-and-go accessories that don’t get scratched or bent.
REVIEW: The North Face Offtrail Hike GTX
The North Face Offtrail Hike GORE-TEX Shoes – Trail-Tested in the Ozarks I picked up the Offtrail Hike GORE-TEX shoes from The North Face right before heading out to the Ozarks for a long weekend of hiking and fishing. I knew I’d be hitting rocky ridgelines, muddy creek beds, and some good old unpredictable backcountry weather, so I wanted something waterproof and grippy that could handle whatever the trail threw at me.
REVIEW: Oboz Katabatic Wind Low
I laced up the Katabatic Wind Low for a day‑long romp through the Ozarks, and man, they impressed right out of the gate. I wasn’t expecting them to feel this lively on rocky descents, but they did. I might’ve tripped once on a root, but those carbon plate‑backed midsoles picked me right back up. My ankles felt good even after 8 hours of hiking around in the Ozarks. The shoes come in a few colors, my wintergold pair popped against the forest backdrop.
REVIEW: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25
Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25: Solid Support for Long Miles I’ve spent a lot of time out on the Fayetteville Greenway in Northwest Arkansas, and if you’ve walked, biked, or jogged any of it, you know it’s a beautiful stretch of smooth paved trail winding through some of the best parts of the Ozarks. It’s a perfect spot to test out new shoes, especially something built for logging miles on the road. I was lucky enough to get a pair of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 that are releasing later this November.
Buff Go Bucket Hat and Speed Cap
A few buddies and I loaded up the yaks and hit the Buffalo River in early June, right as the Ozarks were starting to hit peak green. Temps were hovering in the mid to upper 80s and the sun barely dipped behind a cloud all weekend. I brought both the Buff Speed Cap and the Go Bucket Hat because I figured I’d want options depending on the weather and the stretch of river we were on. I wore the Bucket Hat most of the time while paddling, then switched to the Speed Cap in the evenings.
The Latest and Greatest at Grassroots Connect Tradeshow
I had the chance to wander the aisles at the Grassroots Connect event last month, and let me tell you, it was like stepping into gear paradise. From tiny gadgets that banish mosquito bites to ultralight backpacks that feel like air, each booth was packed with innovations begging to be trail-tested. I spent the afternoon chatting with founders, squeezing every product into my pack, and making mental checklists for my next adventures.
Gearography Review: Darn Tough Socks
Darn Tough: Built for Hiking and Running Austin in June is no joke. I laced up early to beat the heat and slipped on the Darn Tough Run No‑Show Tab socks for a sunrise trail run around Lady Bird Lake. Even before coffee, those socks hit different, ultra light, barely there, and my feet stayed cool the whole 5 miles. No rubbing, no blisters, and no swamp-foot despite that Texas humidity. Later that week, I took a short drive out to Enchanted Rock for a day hike with the Light Hiker Micro‑Crew socks.
The Landmark Project: Products Backed by Good
Trailside Introductions I’ve gotta say, not a lot of apparel brands really walk the talk like The Landmark Project does. They’re not just about selling shirts and socks with pretty outdoor graphics; these folks are serious about protecting the wild places we all love. They partner directly with organizations like the U.S. Forest Service and the Public Lands Fund, using their products as a way to fund education and conservation efforts.
GOREWEAR Concurve Windbreaker
There’s something about those early morning rides, the world is quiet, the air is crisp, and the roads are yours. On one such ride, I threw on the GOREWEAR Men’s Concurve Windbreaker, hoping it would keep the chill at bay without turning me into a mobile sauna. Right off the bat, I noticed how soft it felt against my skin, not the usual crinkly feel you get with most windbreakers. The jacket’s 3D fabric structure inside really does prevent that annoying wet cling, even when you’re pushing hard.
Tailwind Endurance Fuel: Ginger Lime Limited Edition
I took this drink mix out for a spin on a recent ride through the Texas Hill Country. The weather was hot and humid, and I needed something to keep me going. I mixed up a bottle of the Ginger Lime flavor and hit the road. The flavor was refreshing, with a nice balance of ginger and lime that was not overpowering. It wasn’t too sweet, which I appreciated. The mix dissolved easily in water and didn’t leave any residue in my bottle. I felt like it kept me hydrated and energized throughout the ride.
