St. Mary School’s Beacon of Light group, a junior high service club, purchased and decorated a new Blessing Box using surplus funds raised at the Oktoberfest Lemonade Stand and other donations. The project connects students to the Corporal Works of Mercy while giving the community an ongoing, rather than one-time, resource. The box sits near a memorial marker for Coach Mare Von Lindern, who spent years serving the school and church community.

Registration ends July 31 for Help Me Learn Day, a school supply distribution program for low-income children sponsored by Geauga County Job and Family Services. The 20th annual Help Me Learn Day will be held Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Morning Star Friends Church, 12555 Ravenna Road in Chardon. Pre-registration is required to participate. Identification in the form of a food stamp card, Medicaid card or photo ID is required.

The Chester Township Board of Trustees meeting on July 9 began with a presentation and discussion by Jennifer Jones of the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District (GTSWMD) regarding the recycling drop-off program and its associated costs. The community-based marketplace provides fresh, locally sourced products in a family-friendly atmosphere, connecting the community with local farmers and artisans. Aug. 2, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chardon Square Association is sponsoring the 45th annual Arts Festival on historic Chardon Square. The outdoor show features more than 100 juried artists.
