Geeks of Color

Admittedly, I’m a bit of a sucker for films about investigative journalists trying to uncover a big conspiracy from larger-than-life forces doing everything they can to squash the story. Perhaps it’s partly because I work within the same field as these reporter characters, but from All the President’s Men to Spotlight, all these investigative journalism films have always gripped me.

In the years I have been covering and reviewing movies, I’ve had several occasions when, while watching a film, I agreed with its themes or messages but still struggled to connect with it beyond respecting it and the filmmakers’ efforts. That’s not to say those films are bad or poorly made. It’s simply a personal preference, as I often understand why other people would love films I don’t get much out of.

Apple TV does not miss when it comes to the projects they put out. Two years is a long time to leave a multiverse on pause. When Dark Matter wrapped its first season, Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) had fought his way through a sea of alternate Chicagos to get back to his wife Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) and son Charlie (Oakes Fegely), and the show closed the book pretty cleanly on Blake Crouch’s original novel.

I love Ketchup. No, I don’t mean the condiment, thought I do enjoy it on a hot dog (mustard supremacists, fight me). I’m talking about Ketchup Entertainment, the company that gave us last year’s The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie and saved the live action/animation hybrid film Coyote vs. Acme from the tyrannical, nonsensical and downright deleterious reign of Warner Bros.

One of the most wonderful things about animation is its ability to introduce audiences to worlds and cultures they may otherwise never experience. In recent years, Chinese animation in particular has demonstrated just how much untapped potential there is in bringing the country’s rich mythology and folklore to the big screen. All Wishes Come True! is another terrific example of that.

The Netflix anime slate got its biggest update of 2026 at Anime NYC on Thursday, with trailers, premiere dates, and first-look images for eight animated titles, led by an October 20 launch for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and a January 2027 return for Blue Eye Samurai. The title with the deepest Black creative bench on the entire slate got seven words.

Here it is, the moment Disney fans have been waiting for! On Friday, August 14, 12,000 fans of the House of Mouse filled the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., after a long day of shopping, panels and exhibitions at the Anaheim Convention Center for the biennial Entertainment Showcase of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.

Netflix released the Best of the Best trailer on August 18, and the smartest thing about it is what it refuses to do. It never stops to explain collegiate Bollywood-fusion dance to you. It assumes you already know that world, then spends two minutes making jokes that only land if you do. The party sequence, where the trailer establishes that this crew dances everywhere, not just on a stage. Emily V. Aragones/Netflix Lena Khan directs.

Following two buzzing days at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event and a jam-packed entertainment showcase the night before, fans of the Disney theme parks piled into the Honda Center in Anaheim to be among the first members of the general public to get the latest scoop on all the coming additions, updates and changes. Brace yourself, there’s a lot to recap.

Netflix released the official A Different World trailer on August 17, 2026. It runs two minutes and 14 seconds, it premieres September 24, and it gives the new Hillman College class most of the screen time before a single legacy face shows up. The season runs 10 episodes. Most revival trailers spend their first minute reminding you what you used to love. This one spends it on people you have never met.
