I wasn’t planning on having this sale be the subject of this week’s post, but as I began diving into ULTA’s 21+ Days of Beauty Event (which started on the 28th) I realized there are so many items on there that I’ve tried and have opinions about. So here we go! Monday August 31 (today) Cakes Grippy Products — These are non-adhesive nipple covers, which I like because they aren’t sticky and will last forever.
AUGUST ROUNDUP + links
My artists’ life really put me through it this month, both mentally and physically. But I am very grateful that the Kickstarter for my children’s bookSoup Dumplings Don’t Eat Cheese! has been funded!!!! and it’s not too late to get your copy because we got an extension from Kickstarter through the end of this Sunday, August 30th (they were having site problems). If your order wasn’t going through before, it’s been fixed.
I got "shimmer lights!"
Friends! Before we begin this post about hair color, I really need your help. The Kickstarter for my children’s book — aka my debut as a published author based on my own history with eating disorders — ends on August 25th and we still have a ways to go before we reach our goal. In full transparency, I have been working for over a year on this project and I really won’t make any money until these books get sold.
Philming in Philly
Here is a little vlog from the last week — I was filming a microbudget project in Philadelphia, and the surrounding areas — including Bucks County, where Abe grew up! By the time you’re reading this I’ll be home in Los Angeles, but as I type I’m still lying in my hotel bed with a bath-sized towel draped around my neck, so I won’t get chocolate on the sheets.

This Season’s Topic: School Lunch In this episode, Christy and Lynn chat about what they ate for lunch in JHS/high school, self tanner, Christy’s summer vacation in Greece, and several exciting projects they’re working on! JULY ROUNDUP + links
Life has been a mishmash of ups and downs, but for the most part there is a lot of good energy and a ton of momentum.
How (and Why) I Wrote My First Book
It’s happening! My first children’s book! My debut as a published author! How beautiful is this cover? Anny Chen is incredible.
How to Train Your Stick-Straight Hair (to Curl)
I’ve been jealous of the curly-haired since I was a kid. My first attempt at it was via a perm in 3rd grade, in the basement of a woman who was friends with an Auntie who was friends with another Auntie who my mom once met because they were both Chinese at the Paramus Park Mall in 1983. (The perm didn’t go well.) I wanted curls like Whitney Houston, Madonna, Jennifer Grey, and Bon Jovi. I even envied dogs, especially the hair on cocker spaniels’ ears.
The unexpected lesson I learned from my dog
(FYI there’s also a skincare portion of the vlog — you can shop everything mentioned here July 11th was Miles’ 8th birthday! Or, his “Gotcha Day” — six years ago we adopted him from MaeDay Rescue. I made the vlog above to commemorate the day, but he didn’t receive any new clothes/toys. It was a day like any other, except I gave him a few extra treats and squeezed him a dozen times more than usual.
What's in my bag
Whenever I watch “what’s in my bag videos” I’m fascinated by how much random stuff they’re pulling out of there. They seem surprised, too, like “Oh, I totally forgot I had my travel steamer from the Golden Globes last week!” Like they walked around for 7 days without feeling its heaviness, daring it to leak onto their iPad or giant headphones (which also magically fit in there).
