Whenever I watch “what’s in my bag videos” I’m fascinated by how much random stuff they’re pulling out of there. They seem surprised, too, like “Oh, I totally forgot I had my travel steamer from the Golden Globes last week!” Like they walked around for 7 days without feeling its heaviness, daring it to leak onto their iPad or giant headphones (which also magically fit in there).
JUNE ROUNDUP + links
Since getting the DJ Pocket Osmo 3 last month, I’ve been recording up a storm! Pretty much every single day! It’s a bit surprising because I haven’t felt inspired to create video for months. Even though I’ve been doing it since 2009 and I have started/stopped a lot throughout the years for many reasons… mostly because social media has changed… a lot, and so has my attitude towards algorithms and validation factors that are out of my control.
Cottage Core, Unlocked
I recently got some crocheted headscarves from Target and they’ve become my entire personality. I love that they instantly fix a bad hair day, plus they cover up the grays! Here’s the black one, the white one… I also am loving this $15 halter top.
A Summer Screening Series
Hands down, my favorite thing to do in the summer is escape to the theater for a double feature. But in more recent years, I’ve started to just stay home and curate my own movie marathons. I’ll crank up the A/C, pull down the shades, and cuddle up on the couch a few hours each day with Miles. I don’t really think about what the at-home festival theme will be; it usually evolves organically. Sometimes the films will revolve around a director, sometimes it’s a genre.
Please don't sit on my bed in your outside fleece
Sometimes I’ll take outfit photos and when I look back at them, I’m like, Yup, another day, another sweatsuit! I just love cozy outfits and I refuse to believe this means I’ve just “given up!” I’m just giving IN to who I really am: Comfy, Special, Nostalgic. Beatles Coach Jacket thrifted in Japan, Amazon Sweatshirt, American Giant Sweatpants, Socks, Clogs And then other days I think I may have taken it too far.
What I put on my perimenopausal face at night
It has been a long time since I’ve written about my evening skincare routine. The last time was via this video about three years ago, when I was wearing a lot more makeup on a regular basis. And before I started going through perimenopause.
MAY ROUNDUP + links
Roundups Previously, on Gen x Taste... I used to think May = Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day can be complicated for many people, and I am one of them. I think it was a lot more complicated all through my 20/30s trying to get pregnant and wondering why it wasn’t happening for me, like it was for all my family, friends, and strangers on the internet. And it has grown in complexity as I’ve gotten older, deeper into perimenopause, as my relationship with my own aging mother shifts.

Reading, Watching, Listening
I usually save my top media recommendations for the end of the month, but thereās been so much Iāve been enjoying lately. Since getting our new Ioniq 5, weāve been looking for any excuse to take a long drive, and Iāve been wanting to visit Godmotherās Bookstore in Santa Barbara County since they opened. As we walked up and down the hyper-curated displays I realized Iād read at least half of the books.
Sleep Stuff
When I first moved to LA in 2005 I babysat for many couples (I won’t name drop here but let’s just say the most famous couples were the most down-to-earth ones, and the biggest jerks were the people who represented them) and was fascinated by how different all the children’s bedtime rituals were. There are so many tips/tricks to put a small human to bed, I figured I would treat myself the same way through each sleep stage of my own growth.
