Because that’s where the fun is. GfxSpeak is a sister site to the official Jon Peddie Research site. Jon Peddie Research tracks graphics and multimedia hardware and software.
We’ve built this site for people who love computer graphics and for people who are interested in CG innovation. Once it may have been easy to think of the many areas where computer graphics play a major role as separate segments. It may have been easy, but it was never accurate and it’s even less so as digitalization is driving opening the doors between fields and adventurous artists and engineers walk right through. Source

Siggraph pioneers featured speaker gets wider audience
The title of Siggraph Pioneer speaks volumes. It is an exclusive group of seasoned CG influencers, many of whom are considered among the who’s who of the industry. At Siggraph, the group treats its members and attendees to a featured speaker. At Siggraph 2026, that featured speaker is computer graphics legend Don Greenberg. The legend’s accolades and resume are impressive, to say the least.
New color standard coming to Apple line?
Apple is reportedly moving to a new wider color standard for it product lines, adding new OLED panel technology that offers 95% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut. The future is expected to get more colorful for Apple users, as the company is expected to adopt a wider color standard for future OLED displays on its various products, delivering higher color purity.
Siggraph does the robot
One central theme in this year’s Siggraph programming slate is research that harnesses the same tools used in films, games, and visual effects to design, train, and deploy real-world robots, as the field of robotics continues to expand. “Shall We Dance? Resonance of Intentions with an embodied agent based on the Free Energy Principle” introduces an agent that negotiates intentions through physical interaction, synchronizing with a human partner’s choreography and tempo in real time.

Jon Peddie Research today released its RISC-V Market Insights – The Q2 2026 Update, which examines RISC-V’s transition from emerging architecture to commercial platform. The story is no longer just about a free and flexible instruction set. RISC-V works. The harder question is who makes money from it. This quarter shows the value moving toward platforms, software support, AI systems, national silicon programs, and more strategic customer deals, alongside cheap core licenses.
The evolutionary road from graphics to AI
Artificial intelligence did not suddenly appear with ChatGPT. It evolved over four decades through advances in computer graphics, game development, machine vision, and parallel computing. Graphics processors, originally built to draw pixels, gradually became programmable computing engines capable of training neural networks and running AI models. JPR followed that evolution from the beginning, covering graphics hardware, GPU computing, machine learning, and AI processors as each technology emerged.
DreamWorks’ MoonRay joins ASWF
DreamWorks Animation has donated MoonRay, its production path-tracing renderer, to the Academy Software Foundation. MoonRay has rendered every DreamWorks feature film since 2019—from How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World through The Wild Robot and The Bad Guys 2. Built from scratch with no legacy code, it supports distributed rendering, XPU mode across CPU and GPU, bundled path tracing, and a USD Hydra delegate.
Khronos working on new glTF specification
The Khronos 3D Formats Working Group has been busy on a new glTF specification, glTF 2.1, that extends glTF’s capabilities beyond holding a single asset to complex scenes. glTF 2.1 also includes improvements that streamline the journey of an asset from authoring and format conversion, through asset management and optimization, to delivery and toolchain integration. While the specification is nearing completion, the opportunity is still open for community feedback.
