Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

Renewed leadership has been confirmed for the multistakeholder advisory body that helps guide the future direction of GRI, underscoring its global and cross-sector representation at a time of rapid change for sustainability reporting.

With London Climate Action Week not long concluded, what are the key themes that emerged from the speeches and conversations in the conference venues, auditoriums and meeting rooms throughout the week? New analysis finds that GRI is the most widely used sustainability disclosure standard, with GRI reporters accounting for 62% of global market capitalization. The State of Sustainability Reporting: Global Trends in the GRI Standards 2025 draws on published reports from almost 15,000 listed companies across 132 jurisdictions – all those with revenue above USD 250 million – making it the most extensive study of its kind ever conducted.

GRI has set out the priority changes to ensure the revised European Sustainability Reporting Standards deliver stronger global alignment, support economic resilience and reduce reporter burden.

To provide further clarity on how GRI and the IFRS Foundation are working together to enable a seamless, global and comprehensive  system, the two have today issued a statement. Facilitating efficient reporting when using the GRI and ISSB Standards articulates how the standards set by the GRI’s Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB) and those set by the IFRS Foundation’s International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) can be used together by reporting entities and information users.
