VerifiedNewspaper
The Gloucester Daily Times is an award-winning six-day morning newspaper based in Gloucester, Massachusetts, that has been serving the communities of Cape Ann — Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea — for more than 125 years.
The Times began as an independent daily in 1888, then later became a part of the Essex County Newspapers group founded by Philip Saltonstall Weld, a former International Herald Tribune publisher who bought newspapers in Gloucester and Newburyport in 1952.
In 1958, the Times became the first afternoon daily to print its Saturday edition in the morning. More recently, it has been named the New England Newspaper of the year for its circulation category by the New England Newspaper and Press Association in 1998, 2008 and in 2013.
Today, the Times, its online publication gloucestertimes.com and its affiliated Cape Ann Magazine are part of the North of Boston Media Group, which includes three other daily newspapers — The Eagle-Tribune of North Andover, The Salem News and The Daily News of Newburyport — along with four weekly or non-daily newspapers in the Andover Townsman, Carriage Towne News, Derry News and Haverhill Gazette. The North of Boston Media Group is a division of CNHI, LLC, which publishes more than 250 newspapers and affiliated publications and is based in Montgomery, Alabama. Source

Search ArticlesStill on top: Mariners sweep Beverly, have yet to drop a series this summer
Another day, another series sweep for the Manchester Essex Mariners. Holding on to the top spot in the Intertown Twilight League (ITL) baseball standings since the season began, the Mariners took two of three in dominant fashion against rival Rockport last week. The Beverly Giants were next on deck, and Manchester dominated them, too, picking up two more wins in succession to increase their cushion at the top of the league. kAmx? E96 >@DE C646?E G:4E@CJ @?

Commentary: Gloucester’s school budget process
As currently structured, Gloucester's school budgeting process — and, ultimately, the budget itself — often ends in conflict and disappointment, as it has for each of the last two years. To the average resident or parent, the process can seem more combative than collaborative: a confusing morass of bureaucratic positioning, infighting, and political maneuvering.
Letter: Water won't keep up with housing
To the editor: A while back I wrote a letter to the editor on all these condos being built and the problem we will see with the lack of water supply to sustain our need in this city. Already we are in a drought where we can't use the water for anything outside of in-house use and the summer just started. kAmq6:?8 2 #62=E@C 2?5 2 ?2E:G6 @7 @FC 8C62E 4:EJ[ :E D:4<6?D >6 E@ D66 4@?5@ 4@>A=6I6D 6G6CJH96C6 H6 =@@< 2?5 @FC =6256CD 92G:?8 56G6=@A>6?ED 8@:?8 FA 2== @G6C E@H?

Backyard Growers’ annual farmers market, focused on expanding food access, returned to Burnham’s Field last Wednesday and as the nonprofit welcomed area growers, it also celebrated over a decade of facilitating local growing at the downtown park. The Backyard Growcery will run 2:30-6:30 p.m. every Wednesday until Sept. 30 and will welcome area farmers such as Gloocester’s Cedar Rock Gardens and Methuen’s Pleasant Valley Gardens as well as several Gloucester-based bakers to Burnham’s Field.
Public's right to walk Andrews Point path preserved
ROCKPORT — The Massachusetts Land Court has upheld a 139-year-deed restriction, and in doing so affirmed the public’s right to access at Andrew’s Point. Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell on Monday announced the state secured a court victory preserving the public’s right to access the coastal rock and ledges of the Atlantic Path traversing Andrew’s Point. kAmx? 5:DAFE6 H2D H96E96C E96 AF3=:4 92D E96 C:89E E@ FD6 E96 D64E:@?
