Glen Powell is in Los Angeles to do Jimmy Kimmel’s show and whatnot, so we got two different shots of him strolling to a soundstage with Brisket in a crossbody carrier. Yes, that’s right: This episode of The Summer Doldrums is called, “Glen Powell’s Dog Is Cute (And So Is He).” I like that cardigan. The whole thing is so chill and stylish, like he’s about to take everyone to a REALLY good barbecue place no one knows about, and it turns out to be his mom’s backyard.
The Summer Doldrums Presents: Jack Innanen
Jack Innanen is on Dan Levy’s latest show, Big Mistakes, which is itself a big mistake (I hated it, except for Laurie Metcalf). He’s also the dude whose team aggressively linked him to Heated Rivalry, and then loudly announced via EW that he turned down an offer because he was too busy. Is it true?
Some Severance Pals Showed Up For Adam Scott at His Premiere
Adam Scott is HOPEFULLY taking a break from filming Severance — I just need them to be back at it, please — so that he can promote his Netflix thriller The Whisper Man. It’s about a writer whose son disappears, so he teams up with his retired-detective dad and finds connections to an old serial killer case. Nothing we haven’t heard before, really, but maybe it all means they can get Robert DeNiro to swing by the Severance set.
Enjoy the Eccentric Stylings of Marina Hoermanseder
The influence here is OUTER SPACE, and (a) I think you can tell, and (b) why not, you know? This designer’s work was last seen in these pages when Heidi Klum wore something very amusing to the Grammys. Maybe Klum will return to this well for the upcoming Emmys! [Photos: Launchmetrics Spotlight]
Fug Nation Loved…These Ten Things in August
I feel like I just wrote this post for July! Time flies, sands through the hourglass, etc etc etc. Let’s examine the ten items Fug Nation really went for in August. PS, in case you missed it, this month we shopped for cute college gear (I really enjoyed writing that post), delightful items for the dog days of summer, your fave unscented products, and, of course, STRIPES! 10. A new bombshell has entered the villa, in the form of these leopard print overalls. (Which, full disclosure, I also bought.
Isabelle Huppert Looks Cool and Crisp
This photo was snapped at the “Opening Red Carpet at the 19th Angouleme French-Speaking Film Festival,” but I read the first half of that sentence as the “US Open,” for some reason? (This heat has fried my brains.) I realized I was wrong when I got to the French-speaking bit, but this crisp, cream, pin-striped suit and sunniesĀ would look very elegant courtside at Arthur Ashe and accompanied by a Honey Deuce. We can all dream! (Photo by Stephane Cardinale – Corbis/Corbis via Getty Images)
Your Afternoon Chat: What’s Your Go-To Lunch?
I was looking through our afternoon chat archives to see when we last had this discussion and it was in August of last year! Clearly, this is the time of year when my thoughts turn to lunch — probably because all those Back to School feelings are emerging, even if the weather is HEAVILY still signaling summer. I always want to know what people are eating (or packing, or serving) for lunch: Are you someone who has eaten the exact same thing for like 30 years? Do you heavily rely on leftovers?
Megan Mullally Looks Sharp…
Megan here is accompanying Nick Offerman to his stint on the Rosie-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live, which I did not watch but assume is part of his Emmy promotional duties, as he’s nominated for his role as Chester Arthur in the uneven and unhinged but honestly very watchable Death By Lightning, in which he was quite good. (FWIW, also, the Rosie O’Donnell episode of Good Hang last week was ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL. She is a treat, I could have listened to her talk to Amy Poehler for six hours.
Okay But If You Really REALLY Want Some Aughts Style, Here’s More TRL Hits
Nineteen years ago today, AJ and Aly Michalka did some co-hosting on TRL, which I found in the course of my archive-digging and was going to present on its own. But TRL has proven to be such a trove that I decided we might as well bask in what the summer of 2007 looked like up there in Times Square. Spoiler: Not great, Bob. Okay, But If You Really Want the Aughts, Come With Me to TRL
I miss TRL. For those of you who don’t remember, Total Request Live aired on MTV from a studio above Times Square, and featured The Artists Of The Day being interviewed by whatever personalities replaced the concept of veejays. I can’t decide if its continued existence would help keep me informed of who the next wave of artists are, or if it’d be a non-stop CURTAINS FOR ZOOSHA moment. Probably both.
