Image created using Adobe Firefly “There are changes going on in the setup here, I have been offered a position on the books. It means for most of the time I would be behind a desk, this will leave a gap out in the field for someone to replace me. I will explain the proposed new way the organisation will be run, where my part is in it and where you may fit in. Obviously all this is secret and not to be repeated to anyone.” Dave spent twenty minutes explaining the changes taking place.
A History of Pop Music – Albums 1969
Johnny Cash – At San Quentin This is a series of articles looking at albums from 1960 to whatever year we end up in. I will select a featured album for each year and the link for the whole album, Plus list the songs on it. As before, it is not just about the songs and tunes, it is very much about memories, and good ones, I hope.
Introducing My Giant Spot
© Always Worth Saying 2026, Going Postal May I introduce you to my giant spot? It sits in the middle of my forehead and, upon closer inspection, seems to consist of a little stream, some flowers and a tree. Might it be a beauty spot? Groan. On a more serious note, it appeared as a tiny dot several years ago and as such was easy to ignore. However, it grows bigger and bigger and becomes redder and redder.
TANKFEST 2026 & The Tank Museum, Pt 1
For Father’s Day this year, my brother suggested taking Dad to TANKFEST, the annual event held at The Tank Museum in Bovington, Dorset. Yes… yes, let’s do that! Having visited the museum a few years ago with the folks, I’d been keen to return. TANKFEST runs for three days in late June each year, from Friday to Sunday. Tickets are available for single-day or multi-day access. We opted for the Friday, the opening day.
Labour’s bad boys – Part 24 Eric Joyce
Eric Joyce Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported Stickypedia’s first line says it all really. Eric Stuart Joyce b. 1960 is a British politician, former military officer and convicted child sex offender. The only thing missing is his party affiliation and of course being in this series marks him firmly down as Labour.
Postcard from Tromso
A few months ago, I took a trip way up north. To be specific, Tromsø towards the top of Norway. Map of Norway Copyright and Licence | OpenStreetMap As we were travelling by sea and the weather had been quite inclement for the previous few days, the captain had taken a rather circuitous route to approach from the North, reaching a maximum latitude of 70° 41’, very slightly beating my previous record, but making our arrival a little later than intended and reducing the duration of the visit.
A Landscape of Lies
Dubai construction. View Construction Building Site Dubai, Rawpixel – Public domain In 2007 I was the joint owner of a building services consultancy which undertook the mechanical and electrical design and production tender documentation relating to new construction and refurbishment projects. In addition, we also undertook the technical project management of the contracts whilst on site. Our projects typically comprised hospitals, offices, schools, factories and hotels, etc.
A View From (A Harbour Some Miles Away From) The Greenhouse; On “Northerner-Ness”
The New World Awaits. In Whitehaven! © Colin Cross, Going Postal 2026 When I was at school, many moons ago now, history was something that was taught to us without the strictures surrounding Colonialism, White Supremacy, Racism and the usual “phobiae”.
Why do the English (*) drink so much?
Thomas Hardy’s Ale 2004” by Bernt Rostad is licensed under CC BY 2.0 This is a question asked by all foreigners, who look on in horror as we binge-drink our way through the week, stumbling through the streets in various states of inebriation. As though I were talking to someone from Chyyyna, I’ll try to give an answer. The English drink so much because we are unhappy.
The Railway’s sleepers: the Patron, the builder and the Polymath
A final journey into history to meet three men whose names never sadly made it into popular memory but who, like all the others, laid the foundations still used by the railways to this day.
