On Friday morning, June 5, the graduating GHS seniors marched through each of the district’s schools, signalling their last day in the Gorham school system. It is one of the wonderful Gorham High School senior traditions as the seniors revisit each of the stops along their 12 years in Gorham. Along the way, they were showered with cheers from the littles who admire them and congratulations and hugs from their former teachers who are proud of them.

After a brief and interesting overview of Gorham’s history with development, he turned to current issues like Amazon, AI and town taxes.

Village Elementary annual Amazing Race scavenger hunt (Photo Credit: Cheryl Fortier, Village School Principal. On Friday, May 29, fifth-grade students from Village Elementary School took part in the school’s annual Amazing Race, an educational scavenger hunt that brings together Village students and eighth-grade mentors from Gorham Middle School for a day of teamwork, learning and community exploration.

Falmouth Photo Credit: Colleen Heel GHS junior Hunter Finck was named the Gatorade Maine Baseball Player of the Year, Gorham’s first ever GPOY in baseball, excelling both on the mound and at the plate. Finck is 5-0 this season after pitching six scoreless innings in the Rams’ 9-1 win over Thornton Academy. In 29 ⅔ innings, Finck has struck out 43 batters. Through the Rams first 12 games, Finck was batting .588 with 17 RBI and 19 runs scored.

The Maine Metal Buildings have extended an open invitation to the ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the construction. The ceremony will take place at the building’s location, 625 Main Street, on Thursday, June 25 at 3 p.m., with remarks and tours of the building.

Robert Browne Hall (1858-1907) is known by band musicians all around Maine as the “New England March King.” He was an American composer, conductor, and cornet virtuoso. Of Hall’s over 100 total compositions, at least 62 of them are marches. Although he rarely left his home state of Maine, his works are acclaimed internationally, paricularly in the United Kingdom.

The Gorham Town Council met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 2. Chairperson Suzanne Phillips called the meeting to order and all members were present. Their first action was to approve the minutes of the May 5 regular meeting and the May 12 special meeting (7-0). Eight members of the public addressed the board. One thanked writer Bob Lowell for his years of writing about the Gorham community and wished him well in his retirement.

The Town of Gorham’s Capital Improvement Projects / Economic Development Committee held its monthly meeting on May 21 at the Gorham Municipal Center with all three members present. One member of the public attended the meeting, which focused in large part on discussion of the current 10-year Capital Plan approach for the Gorham school system.

Lucinda Stein, English Teacher, Gorham High School Brodie Berlinger, a graduating senior at Gorham High School, has been honored with a 2026 #CreateConnectCare Award from Creative Visions. This global initiative celebrates youth creativity as a tool for promoting mental health awareness, fostering emotional connection, and supporting community care.
