Delia Barragan Altamirano, 71, a resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest Friday, September 4, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born January 10, 1955 in Silver City, NM to Manuel Barragan and Ramona Peña. It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was a woman who loved fiercely, gave endlessly, and had one of the biggest hearts anyone could ever know.

Louisa B. Valdespino, 102, a lifelong resident of Deming, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 5, 2026, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family and friends. Born in Chamberino, New Mexico, to Julian B. Bernal and Ramona Garcia Bernal. Louisa spent her life in the Deming farming community, where she became known for her strong farm businesses, her generosity, creativity, and deep Catholic faith.

Danny Ross Ruebush passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, a fighter to the end. Born on June 27,1955 in Deming, NM, to Shelton Walker Ruebush and Pernedia "Nita" Hays Ruebush. Danny lived a life deeply rooted in hard work, faith, family, and a profound love for the great outdoors. His early days were spent growing up alongside his nine siblings and many cousins on the farm at Red Mountain.

Legislative Pay Should Come With Accountability This November, New Mexico voters will decide HJR 5, a constitutional amendment that would give state legislators an annual salary tied to New Mexico's median household income that will automatically adjust annually, currently estimated at about $67,800 per legislator.
