It is 11 years since the last Tassie pacer won the iconic race when the great Beautide won the second of his Grand Finals at Menangle in 2015. His trainer-driver, the Tasmanian-born and raised Jimmy Rattray, is back for another tilt with underrated pacer Nyack. Tasmania’s other great hope is the state’s reigning Harness Horse of the Year, the Rohan Hillier-trained Triedtotellya.

THE Kiwis were smiling after the barrier draws for the two Group 1 features at Albion Park on Saturday night. Regan Todd snared gate six with his brilliant four-year-old pacer Marketplace in the $350,000 Group 1 Rising Sun, while Tom Bagrie’s first Aussie raider, four-year-old trotting mare Dash Dosh, will start from barrier four in the $150,000 Group 1 Great Square. Considering both features were preferential draws, the pair fared well.
