A new Hawaii publication called Hashi Magazine connects cuisine and culture with stories that are inspired by the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival.
Hashi is a magazine that will explore the intrinsic connection between food and culture, and beyond.
Ingredients, recipes, traditions, preparation blend together to cultivate a cultural identity for a community. We want to tell those unique, untold stories in our community of Hawaii, and across the globe.
Hashi is the Japanese word for chopsticks, but is also defined as a bridge. Source

This year, the 44th Annual Telly Awards saw a record-breaking number of entries—13,000 total from across the globe, as well as top video and television content producers such as BET Networks/BET Digital, Disney, NASA, Paramount, PBS Digital Studios and more. “We are incredibly honored to have ‘Taste Our Love For Hawai’i’ recognized with not just one, but two Telly Awards,” said Yamaguchi.

Jonah Sahagun: Pualu Fish Tacos

Seeing as my family and I enjoy fishing for food, I’ve mastered a particular style of fishing called “throw net” which usually catches the Pualu. This fish is popular as an appetizer, used for sashimi or put on the grill.

The vegetables & tofu are seasoned with red chili paste. The dipping sauce consists of equal ratios of peanut butter and coconut milk. My inspiration was to create a delicious, yet healthy, quick lunch alternative. Kid lunch options are very high in fat and calories.

Taste Our Love for Hawai'i Episode 3 Premieres June 23
The third installment of Hashi Media’s original four-part series, “Taste Our Love For Hawaii,” premieres on KHON2 and KHON2 livestream on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 9:30 P.M. HST. The series, which tells the story of Hawaii’s natural beauty and local agriculture and fishing industries through the lens of chefs, spotlights the islands’ farmers, ranchers and fishermen that feed our community.
Kung Hei Fat Choy! “Taste Our Love for Hawaii” is part of Hashi Media, the digital platform of curated culinary stories that feature the global network of the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival. This platform is about bridging food and culture. It has been a passion project of mine; I’ve always been interested in my heritage and cultures from around the world. Food means something to everyone whether they know it or not.

It has always been our dream to capture and share the hundreds of unique food and culture stories behind the talent—chefs, winemakers, mixologist, and producers—of the Hawaiʻi Food & Wine Festival. Our first magazine publication, Hashi, debuted with the 2019 Festival, followed by our digital platform, Hashilife.com which launched in 2020.
