As the summer time drifts away and the 2026 to 2027 school year approaches, preparing student leaders for an impactful year of shaping student life at Houston City College is important. In doing so, leadership training is a crucial aspect of that readiness.
Houston Students Are Relying on METRO. Is It Enough?
For students without cars, getting to school is not as simple as grabbing their keys and heading to campus. It can mean leaving home hours early, waiting through Houston heat, juggling transfers, and hoping the next bus shows up on time. Houston is famous for its freeways, traffic, and endless construction, but not everyone has the option of driving. Many students rely on METRO to get to class, work, internships, doctor’s appointments, and home again. That number appears to be growing.
The Unexpected Library: Why Thrift Store Books Matter
Retail bookstores are full of stories you haven’t read before, but the selection is deliberately organized to guide readers toward bestsellers and new releases at prices that aren’t always accessible. What’s more compelling than affordability, though, is stepping into a space where discovery isn’t engineered, and every shelf holds the possibility of something forgotten, unusual, or unexpectedly perfect. That feeling of serendipity becomes tangible in the aisles of thrift stores across Houston.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Album Review
YCEE returns with a blend of hip-hop and R&B that signals his evolution through an extended hiatus. During his time away from the spotlight, Afrobeats lovers largely concluded he had fallen off, a sentiment he addresses head on in his WYFL Riddim video, where he raps, “Made it to the top, they say I fell off a bit, I dust myself off and I get on with it.” He is not oblivious to what his absence cost him.
The White House’s UFC Spectacle: When Sport Trumped Tradition
Officials framed the event as an early celebration for America’s 250th anniversary. However, June 14th also marked the president’s 80th birthday and Flag Day, three weeks before July 4th. The historic lawn became an exclusive VIP zone. Out of 4,300 seats, only 1,200 went to active military personnel. The rest went to administration insiders, UFC executives, and corporate elites.
Houston, The World Has Arrived
They arrived expecting cowboy boots and oil rigs. What they found instead was a city that speaks a hundred languages before ten in the morning, serves some of the best barbecue in the country, and has apparently introduced half of Europe to a magical culinary discovery: ranch dressing goes on everything. Houston spent over a year preparing for what Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo compared to hosting several Super Bowls at once.
Texas crushes Alabama 14-2; staying alive in the CWS
The Texas Longhorns needed to stay alive in their run for the College World Series. Well, they took care of business in an elimination game against Alabama in a 14-2 victory at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, NE on Monday. The Longhorns will await the loser in the winner’s bracket between Oklahoma and Georgia, in an SEC battle fest in bracket 2 of the CWS. While scoring its most runs at the College World Series since 1992, Texas was led offensively by Adrian Rodriguez.
Knicks wins NBA title; first since 1973
If anyone thought this season that the New York Knicks would not end a long drought of not winning the NBA championship, then they were dead wrong. The New York Knicks would win their first championship in 53 years (1973) in San Antonio 94-90, on Saturday night at Frost Bank Arena. The Knicks were lead by Jalen Brunson with 45 points, whom became the Finals MVP.
US Men’s National Team Dominates Paraguay 4–1 in World Cup Opener
June 15, 2026 The United States men’s national team showed the doubters, if there were any, that they could showcase their talents this Friday night. Well, that answer was questioned as the US took care of Paraguay 4-1 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA. Christian Pulisic would score the first two goals before leaving at the half.
Staying True in a Trend-Driven Industry
In the music world, lots of artists need big record labels, expensive marketing, and social media to get famous. But Big K.R.I.T., a rapper and producer, has done things differently for over ten years. He didn’t rely on the usual music industry way of doing things. Instead, he built his career on independence, control over his music, and a strong bond with his listeners. This approach has helped him succeed without needing all the fancy stuff.
