Dolby Laboratories has confirmed that the Dolby Vision 2 standard, which has already begun rolling out on Hisense TVs since last week, will also be compatible with existing 4K Blu-ray players too. However, that’s not to say that anyone will actually benefit from this, because the onus is on the 4K Blu-ray manufacturers to enable Dolby Vision 2 through a firmware upgrade, and it’s not clear if anyone will.

Google TV owners are getting access to a deluge of free content, with more than 10,000 new video-on-demand titles being added to the Google TV Freeplay service this week. It’s a monster-sized addition to Google TV’s already impressive select of free and ad-supported TV or FAST services, and the best part of this announcement is that viewers won’t need to sign up or subscribe to anything.

Smart TV platform provider Roku has set a cat among the pigeons with a world-first in the shape of Fairground AI, a new, free-to-watch TV channel that shows nothing but AI-generated content 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Fairground AI is just one of four new channels added to The Roku Channel, which is the streaming platform’s dedicated library of free TV channels. The others include Mad TV, Retro Black Laughs and Whose Line Is It Anyway.

Amazon could be getting ready to kill off its last remaining Android-based Fire TV Sticks in a matter of weeks, and if that happens it will mean the popular devices have lost one of their most attractive selling points, forever. The company’s Fire TV Sticks have proven to be extremely popular in recent years for several reasons.

Europeans are losing interest in going to the cinema, with the latest data from the International Union of Cinemas showing that attendances were down 4.4% last year. Given the number of blockbuster films released last year, the decline in European cinema ticket sales is a bit of a surprise.

Audio visual company Marantz is refreshing its lineup of Cinema Series AV receivers just in time for them to be paired with the latest premium televisions from Samsung, LG, Sony and other brands that have gone on sale recently. The new series includes four models - though two of them are dedicated to specific regions – including the flagship Cinema 50 Series 2, the Cinema 60 Series 2 (for the U.S. and Asia-Pacific), Cinema 60/DAB Series 2 (for Europe only) and the Cinema 70s Series 2.

Dolby has announced that the Dolby Vision 2 HDR standard is ready to rock and roll on multiple Hisense TVs from today, and it will be coming to additional models, including some from TCL and Philips, in the coming weeks. Hisense is getting first dibs on the enhanced HDR format though.

Microsoft is expanding the Xbox cloud gaming application to millions of TVs running the Vidaa operating system, including a number of Hisense’s models. The Xbox cloud app makes it possible to stream Xbox games to your TV without buying an actual console, meaning that users can play top video games without investing hundreds of dollars in the hardware. However, to be able to play games through the app, users will also have to pay for a Game Pass subscription.

Samsung Electronics' 2026 TVs will be the first to enjoy the next generation of High Dynamic Range picture quality, with the company announcing the imminent launch of HDR10+ Advanced on select models later this month. Amazon Prime Video will be the first streaming service to support the new format, it said.
