Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network

HITN took part in the 44th annual National Dominican Day Parade in Manhattan, where thousands of New Yorkers gathered to celebrate the history, culture and contributions of the city’s Dominican community. A group of HITN staff members joined spectators along the parade route, distributing promotional items and sharing information about the educational network’s television and digital offerings.

HITN joined New Yorkers on one of the summer Saturdays when portions of the city’s streets were transformed into open public spaces as part of the annual Summer Streets program. Organized by the New York City Department of Transportation, Summer Streets closes sections of major roadways to vehicle traffic on select Saturdays during the summer.

HITN has donated 50 iPads to WHIN Music Community Charter School in Washington Heights, providing new technology that students will use when classes resume for this school year. Representatives from HITN recently visited the school to learn more about its educational programs and to see firsthand how the devices will support classroom instruction.

The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture (NMPRAC) in Chicago has received accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the highest recognition awarded to museums in the United States. The distinction places the institution among a select group of museums that meet the nation’s highest standards for governance, collections stewardship, education, financial sustainability and public service.

HITN Studios recently hosted 14 fifth-grade students from Brooklyn’s Magnet School of Journalism & Multimedia Studies for a hands-on media production experience through its Student Spotlight initiative. The visit gave students an opportunity to step beyond a traditional school tour and participate as on-camera talent and content creators.
