But Miami also improved by making the biggest trade of the summer, acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo away from the Milwaukee Bucks. There is expected to be 11 teams competing for eight spots. Miami is squarely among that pack, but how will they separate themselves into a surefire contender?

Mitchell was acquired by Miami in the aftermath of the Jimmy Butler trade back at the 2024 trade deadline.

With the departures of all three of Tyler Herro, Norman Powell and Jaime Jaquez Jr.— they leave behind some of those holes to supplement Miami’s new Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo duo.

But the biggest black eye was Nikola Jovic’s regression after an encouraging third season. Jovic, 23, averaged just 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 47 games last season. He shot just 36.6 percent from the floor, 26.9 percent from 3-point range and 68.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Instead, James burned his former 2010-2014 franchise by choosing to build an even bigger super team with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The schedule includes three at home, one on the road and one at a neutral site. The Giannis Antetokounmpo era will unofficially begin in Quebec City, Canada, against the Toronto Raptors (a semi-home game for them…), who are awaiting the Kawhi Leonard-Aspiration probe. The game will be on Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
