Leading into me undertaking this exercise of putting thoughts into words I have read a lot of tributes to Mike Detillier from people both near and far away. From the well known to the average sports fan, everybody has a Mike D story or memory from meeting him somewhere.

The Friends of the Terrebonne Parish Public Library System is thrilled to announce its highly anticipated Comic Con Event, taking place at the Main Library, 151 Library Drive in Houma (next to the Civic Center) on Saturday, September 12, from 9 AM – 7 PM. This exciting, family-friendly celebration will transform the library into a hub for fans of all ages to enjoy a full day of activities, fandom, and fun. Admission is completely free and open to the public.

On August 29, 2026, the Houma Police Department responded to two related shooting incidents in the 100 block of Stovall Street. The shootings left a 19-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the head and a 20-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. The Houma Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division assumed responsibility for the investigations, which resulted in the arrests of two individuals and an active arrest warrant being issued for a third suspect.

September’s honorees included middle and high school students who participated in the Louisiana Bandmasters Association (LBA) All-State Honor Bands. “Way to go, everyone!” said the Lafourche Parish School District.

Louisiana has made significant progress in reducing opioid-related deaths and emergency department visits in recent years, while new national survey data provide a broader look at substance use, mental health, and access to treatment across the state. From 2022 to 2025, opioid-related deaths in Louisiana decreased 59%, compared with a 46.2% decline nationally.
