Darnel Doreus was thrilled to learn he would be attending Humber Polytechnic this fall for the Architectural Technology program. Doreus chose Humber for a variety of reasons, including Humber’s commitment to supporting student’s personal and academic growth. “I chose Humber because I felt like it would be a good place for me to grow both academically and personally,” said Doreus.

Humber Polytechnic is set to become the new home of Canada Basketball’s National Training Centre and head office as part of an expanded partnership that will bring a new athletics facility to Humber’s North Campus. The announcement was made on September 16, bringing together varsity athletes, coaches, staff, and community members to celebrate the future of sport at Humber and its ongoing partnership with Canada Basketball.

After years of planning, design, construction and collaboration, Humber's SWITCH project is nearing completion, marking the end of one of the most ambitious infrastructure transformations in the institution's history. What began as a plan to replace an aging campus heating system evolved into a complex, campus-wide decarbonization project that has fundamentally changed how energy is delivered across North Campus.

Starting post-secondary education can bring a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Students may be looking forward to meeting their classmates while also wondering what their program will be like, how to navigate campus or where to turn when they need support. Those questions are a natural part of beginning something new, and Fall Orientation is one of the first places students can begin finding answers.

Humber Polytechnic’s HumberASV team has been selected to compete at Njord – The Autonomous Ship Challenge, an international student competition taking place in Trondheim, Norway, from August 10 to 14. The HumberASV team traveling to Norway includes Ian Cameron, Brett Jacobs, Emiliano Rodriguez-Flores, Amelia Soon, Andrew Paley and Carson Fujita. As core members of the team, they have played important roles in the development of Loon-E and will represent Humber at the international competition.

Humber Polytechnic is helping learners with disabilities build the skills needed to succeed in the workplace through its Transition to Work program, which combines career programming, self-advocacy learning resources and financial support. The initiative reflects Humber's broader commitment to helping address Canada's productivity challenges, a priority outlined in President and CEO Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan's “Productivity Now” report.

Humber Polytechnic Event Management student Alessia Commisso was recognized as Toronto’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Unsung Hero after volunteering at the FIFA World Cup™. According to FIFA, the honour recognizes volunteers who demonstrate positivity, resilience and a commitment to creating memorable experiences for fans.

As soccer fans gather at Humber Polytechnic’s Lakeshore Campus for Humber Match Day during the FIFA World Cup 2026™, music students are helping set the stage with live performances. The free community watch party feature live match screenings, cultural programming and family-friendly activities. Throughout the event, music students perform before matches and during halftime, gaining professional experience while helping create an energetic atmosphere for fans.

The Bachelor of Creative and Professional Writing (BCPW) program at Humber Polytechnic recognized five high school students in its annual High School Flash Fiction Contest, with two of this year’s winners set to begin their studies at Humber this fall. The annual contest invites Ontario students in Grades 9 to 12 to submit an original flash fiction story of 250 words or less. This year’s competition recognized outstanding young writers from across Ontario.

On June 24, 2026, more than 160 golfers gathered at Lionhead Golf Club and Conference Centre for the 12th annual Humber Golf Classic, making every swing count for student scholarships, bursaries and emergency funds. Presented by TD Insurance, the signature fundraising event raised more than $200,000, bringing the Golf Classic’s total impact to an impressive $1.88 million since its inception.
