I have launched an exploratory committee to run for Congress. See: samhusseini.com. I need to decide soon. Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen: So with that, I am thrilled to hand the mic to our first speaker Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The leader has been a longtime champion of anti-corruption issues. Working to overturn Citizens United, to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and move other critical reform pieces.
On with Kshama Sawant on “No Peasants”
I was just on “No Peasants” hosted by Kelley Lane with Kshama Sawant, Phil Anderson and John Saulie-Rohman. Sawant is in an important race against Rep. Adam Smith. She had just been on “Breaking Points” earlier today to some fanfare. Smith was on before her and packed some core lies in his remarks which were played twice on Breaking Points and not debunked to my knowledge, debunked below.
A Vision for an Electoral Path: Redefining Politician, What a Congress Person Can Do, Bringing Order to the House
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple. He saw it as an example of the “free architecture of ideal democracy”. I write from Thurgood Marshall BWI Airport, waiting for my flight to Chicago to go to the Green Party annual meeting. I’ve just gone through the obnoxious ritual of “security” — complete with taking off your belt and appropriately holding up your hands in a surrender pose, though I couldn’t resist sticking out my middle fingers as I assumed the position.
Mamdani Leaves Palestine in Trump’s Hands
Mamdani scored all kinds of political points by claiming that he wanted to arrest Netanyahu. And predictably, he is basically leaving the matter in the hands of Trump, claiming he can’t arrest him (I’ve gotten contradictory views on this) and that the federal government should be a party to the International Criminal Court to deal with the issue. I.e., he’s appealing to Trump to do the right thing on a genocide that Trump is party to. Is there anything more pathetic? Sound and fury indeed.
Congress Integrating U.S. and Israeli Militaries
U.S. and Iran trade strikes for 9th day. Israel has killed at least 1,158 Palestinians in Gaza since the so-called ceasefire deal was signed, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Middle East Eye reports Israeli minister "Smotrich says U.S. fighting Iran is ‘best for us’ and Israel will not join ... Finance minister says the war serves Israeli interests while American troops and households bear its mounting costs." AntiWar.com is reporting “Nearly 100 U.S. Troops Injured This Month”.
Lebanese President Meeting with Trump to Surrender Sovereignty?
I drafted the news release below for accuracy.org. As tons of alleged critics of Netanyahu Mileikowsky and Trump claim Iran is defeating them, the two are getting exactly what they want in Lebanon and Palestine with minimal scrutiny. The Empire is playing chess. Its alleged critics are playing checkers or worse — and therefore actually assisting it. Lebanese President Meeting with Trump to Surrender Sovereignty?
I am Thinking of Running for Congress Against AIPAC Ivey
I am thinking of running for Congress in Maryland's 4th Congressional District. The current incumbent is Glenn “AIPAC” Ivey. People might recall, he got in on a flood of AIPAC money, defeating Donna Edwards in 2022. Edwards, in addition to many other things, was one of the only members of Congress to go to Gaza. She went on a trip in 2009 (which big tech platforms obscure). I will have to decide by early August. I would run as a Green — they are on the ballot in Maryland.
Voting “Against” “Aid” When “Netanyahu” Says he Doesn’t Want It
Lots of people today are excited because a hundred Democrats “voted” “against” “aid” to “Israel” in an amendment by Massie. Common Dreams reports on a “seismic shift” — Which is funny because Common Dreams has also reported on how “Netanyahu” has been urging a shift from “aid to partnership” — So perhaps not so much of a “seismic shift”.
Lindsey Graham’s Lies, Blood Thirst and His Worst Nightmare
People say you’re not supposed to speak ill of the dead. Here’s Lindsay Graham being glad Saddam Hussein is “gone” — “Well, he had a lot to do in terms of destabilizing the region [USI actually destablizes region].
Plans to End Aid to Israel — and Replace it with Something Worse
This morning, I drafted this news release for accuracy.org — Plans to End Aid to Israel — and Replace it with Something Worse: Interviews Available Calls from politicians who have long backed Israel like Rahm Emanuel to re-assess aid to Israel have been depicted as meaningfully critical of Israel in various media outlets.
