When he was in college at the former University of Southwestern Louisiana, Bishop Jerry Hebert used to play tennis at Burleigh Park in Jeanerette. The long wait for an ALDI grocery store in New Iberia is came to an end. Self-described as “one of the most trusted grocers,” ALDI opened its newest location at 1102 E. Admiral Doyle Dr. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 28. To celebrate the store opening, the first 100 customers received a gift bag filled with a sampling of ALDI fan favorites and a gift card as part of the ALDI Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program.

A Tennessee-based company that promises to increase city revenue and help save lives will be making a proposal to City Council Tuesday night. The company, Blue Line Solutions, is expected to propose a plan that would install a network of cameras along city streets in an effort to crack down on speeders. Blue Line, in previous contracts with cities, installs the network at no cost to the city but takes a percentage of the fines, usually around 35 to 40 percent.

The World Championship Gumbo Cook Off is an institution in Acadiana. This year, the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating the 32nd anniversary of this event held each year on the second weekend in October. The event, which began with less than a dozen teams cooking out of the back of their pickup trucks, still takes place in downtown New Iberia on historic Main Street, the first Main Street in Louisiana to be awarded the coveted Great American Main Street Award.
