The Italian Trade Agency Brings Lesser Known Italian Design to the Fore
When it comes to the perception of Italian design, many picture elaborate marble-ladden interiors with baroque furnishings and gilded ornamentation. This is a limited, romanticized image of a bygone era; a classical and neoclassical era when architecture and furniture were implemented as conspicuous demonstrations of wealth and status. There’s much more to the multivalent country’s contribution to the cannon, in particular during the 20th and 21st centuries.
LIXIL: Research As a Key Design Strategy
What’s your overall vision in this respect? What are some of your key ambitions and goals for pushing these brands forward? For us, user-centric design, innovation, and environmental responsibility aren’t opposing forces. They actually feed into each other to create a much better human experience. Take GROHE, for example. Can you walk us through your process from initial concept to finished piece, and part excites you the most?

Emma Fowler and Michelle Fowler
Tell us a bit about where you live: How long have you been there, and how does your environment shape your creative process? EJF: I live in New York, but Colorado is home at heart. I’ve been in NYC since 2007 and have built most of my life here, but Colorado has never left my work. That connection to nature continues to shape my philosophy, especially in how I integrate natural elements into urban environments.
