Article 09-10-2026 During the hostilities that affected Iran in 2025 and 2026, the Iranian Red Crescent Society`s (IRCS) volunteers and staff responded to people injured or trapped in damaged buildings and other emergencies. Nine IRCS humanitarian workers lost their lives while carrying out their duties, while humanitarian facilities and essential civilian infrastructure were also damaged. Humanitarian needs remain high in the country and the work of the IRCS volunteers – very relevant.

En los territorios afectados por los conflictos armados, quienes cuidan a otras personas también enfrentan miedo, desgaste y sufrimiento. Cuidar su salud mental es cuidar a las comunidades que dependen de su labor. El personal de salud, los profesores, las parteras, los médicos ancestrales, los líderes comunitarios y los guías espirituales cumplen una importante labor de cuidado y acompañamiento, especialmente en lugares donde los servicios esenciales pueden ser limitados.

World Mental Health Day, observed on 10 October, is marked this year under the theme “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change”. Supporting people affected by armed conflict and responding to their needs are central to the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). In Jordan, the ICRC marked the International Day of the Disappeared under the theme “The Journey of Families of the Missing”.
