The Journal of the Intensive Care Society (JICS) is a peer-reviewed journal published four times a year in February, May, August and November. The journal publishes original papers, review articles, critically appraised topics and audits of interest to all those involved in caring for critically ill patients. The editorial board recognises the multidisciplinary nature of critical care and encourages submissions from all specialities involved in research, clinical practice and management/.
JICS is the official journal of the UK Intensive Care Society (ICS). The (ICS) was founded in 1970 as the first national society for intensivists, bringing together all clinicians involved in intensive care. The primary aims of the ICS are to foster education and research, to develop clinical standards, to enhance patient safety and to encourage professional development. Source

On behalf of the Intensive Care Society, I would like to congratulate our colleagues in the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) on becoming the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM). As the world's oldest specialist intensive care society and long-standing partners in advancing critical care, we warmly welcome efforts to strengthen the specialty. Over the last decade intensive care medicine has demonstrated its worth in sepsis, complex operating, trauma and the pandemic.

Dr Louis Kreitmann Intensive Care Consultant and Clinical Academic , Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London I am an intensive care consultant and clinical academic at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London. My research focuses on the epidemiology, diagnosis and management of severe infections, with particular interests in immunocompromised patients and antimicrobial resistance.
Renal Study Day: Critical Care Nephrology
This study day provides a comprehensive overview of the management of acute kidney injury (AKI) and renal replacement therapy (RRT) in the critically ill patient. The day will address how AKI is identified and managed across the ICU through to the practical delivery of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and the complexities of the nephrology–ICU interface.

Dr Andrew Breen Consultant Intensivist, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Andy is a consultant in ICM working in Leeds Teaching Hospitals, having been appointed in 2005. He is Clinical Director for Adult Critical Care in Leeds, and an elected the Intensive Care Society's Honorary Secretary. He graduated in Liverpool in 1995, where he completed his clinical training in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.
