August 28, 2026 The use of generative AI in education is now almost four years old. The tool that promised to end the take home essay has become ordinary. The fears — of cheating, of the decline of writing abilities and of the erosion of critical thinking skill — look different up close. But four years is a lot of time to adapt. Schools have done so in a variety of ways, from outright bans to requirements for disclosure.
This Engineer Says Your Best Mentor Doesn’t Work at Your Company. Here’s Where to Find One Instead
August 13, 2026 IEEE Life Fellow John McDonald has spent more than five decades in power engineering, but ask how he most wants to spend his time now, and the answer is simple: with young people. A longtime power industry leader who now runs his own consulting practice and serves as the 2026 president of the IEEE Foundation, McDonald devotes three to four hours nearly every day to mentoring students and early-career engineers. His own path started with a nudge.

As AI Reshapes Cyber Threats and Cyber Jobs, The Basics Haven’t Changed
August 3, 2026 When generative AI emerged just a few years ago, cybersecurity experts warned that it would make it easier for scammers to trick people into sending them money, or that deepfake videos would make it hard to know when to trust the news. In 2026, emerging generative AI proved much more capable. Newer models can identify exploits and vulnerabilities in the software that forms the backbone of the global economy.
How IEEE Humanitarian Projects Use Volunteers to Tackle Local Needs
July 30, 2026 Every day, around the world, IEEE members and volunteers dedicate their time and expertise to problems that rarely make headlines. This year’s IEEE Social Impact Report gathers that work under a fitting theme: shaping the future through technology and service. The initiatives below are a small selection — sensors built to raise awareness about air pollution, a community trained to run its own solar farm, honey sales that pay for the next stretch of wiring.
