BANGKOK (AP) — Asian shares were mixed on Wednesday and oil prices surged more than 2% after the U.S. launched strikes on Iran after it said Tehran struck three ships in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. futures were little changed. Brent crude, the international standard, jumped 2.6% to $76.09 a barrel early Wednesday, while U.S. benchmark crude also gained 2.6% to $72.25 a barrel. Both had declined recently to the levels they were at before the war with Iran began in late February.

MOSES LAKE — A community fundraiser has been launched to support multiple members of the Smith and Kemp families following a devastating boating accident on Moses Lake over the Fourth of July weekend. The fundraiser, organized by Anna Flowers for Andrew Smith, aims to help cover mounting medical expenses, surgeries, rehabilitation and lost income after the July 5 crash that left several family members seriously injured.
COULEE CITY — A Silver Alert has been issued for a missing 70-year-old Coulee City man who was last seen Saturday morning, according to a Washington State Patrol alert. John Morrison was last seen July 5 at about 5:30 a.m. leaving his residence in Coulee City. Authorities said his direction of travel is unknown. The Silver Alert was activated by the Washington State Patrol on behalf of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
