More young adults developing type 2 diabetes and at more severe levels of obesity
Young women are leading a worrying increase in early-onset type 2 diabetes diagnoses in England, according to a new analysis. In a major population study of type 2 diabetes in England, researchers have shown a clear generational divide, with rates of diagnosis rising rapidly among younger adults, particularly in women, although declining in older age groups.
ICB CDT Lab of the Future Hackathon

Imperial expert leads science at £2 billion AI materials company CuspAI
A UK-based AI materials company co-led by an Imperial materials scientist has raised £330 million at a £2 billion valuation to accelerate the discovery of new materials. Professor Aron Walsh, Chair in Materials Design in Imperial College London’s Department of Materials, said his role at CuspAI is helping translate advances in materials research into industrial applications.

School of Public Health staff recognised at 2026 awards
Staff and students from across the School of Public Health have been recognised in the 2026 Staff Recognition Awards and Imperial Garden Party. The President’s Awards for Excellence recognise the achievements of individuals or teams in four categories: Culture and Community, Education, Research, and Societal Engagement. The President’s Medal is then awarded to an exceptional winner in each category.
