For Wildflower, the office is more than a workplace. It’s a space where clients experience the company’s approach to furniture procurement, styling and interior curation before a project even begins. Designed in collaboration with workplace consultancy Made For, the new Melbourne headquarters functions equally as office and showroom.

Melbourne Design Week 2026 might have wrapped up some weeks ago, but New/Relic: Fixtures was one exhibition worth taking a look back at. It saw ten designers — across a range of disciplines spanning jewellery design, ceramics, and furniture design — invited to reimagine everyday fixtures found in homes across Australia. Curated by interior designer Chiara Hunwick of Hunney Studio and architect Isabelle Jooste of Minilo Studio, New/Relic was hosted by Le Space in partnership with Pepite Gallery.

Fireplaces continue to play an important role in shaping atmosphere and shared spaces across a wide range of commercial projects. They can be found everywhere from hospitality venues and hotel lobbies to apartment developments and aged care environments. It should be noted, however, that integrating a fireplace into commercial architecture can present a number of technical challenges, particularly in terms of ventilation, fire safety, spatial constraints and regulatory compliance.

With more people choosing to age at home and an increasing focus on inclusive environments, the demand for fixtures that blend functionality, safety and style has never been greater. Today’s session explores how tapware and grabrail design can support independence, safety and accessibility in both residential and commercial spaces. By the end of today’s session, you’ll be able to translate the principles of universal design into practical, real-world outcomes that benefit occupants.

Thanks to various factors – including population growth, the ongoing housing crisis, and environmental concerns associated with urban sprawl – Australia’s urban landscapes are changing. The country that was once best-known for its ubiquitous quarter-acre suburban blocks is now seeing more and more medium and high-density residential developments. As we move to higher density living, it is important that the quality of housing delivered remains high.

In this session of CPD Live, “Understanding and Respecting Country – Pathways to Effective Collaboration & Co-Design” we consider Indigenous art and design in the context of the architectural sector. Noting the significance of design to First Nations peoples across Australia and the work of Indigenous designers, artists, and architects within the built environment, we also shine a light on collaborations between them and non-Indigenous architects.

Balconies are a popular feature in multi-residential buildings, offering occupants an appealing blend of indoor and outdoor living. However, these spaces present specific challenges in terms of drainage. Without effective water management systems, they are susceptible to water accumulation, which in turn, can lead to structural issues and building degradation. As multi-residential developments continue to expand across Australia, the complexity of balcony designs has grown.

Though the exact figure varies slightly depending on methodology and source, it is generally accepted that the built environment is responsible for around 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions. A sobering statistic for all involved, it nevertheless leaves architects, builders, and others with some important question – along the lines of ‘how can we make a difference?’ – to answer.
