So, as we’re all good now, it’s time to talk about First Bite. First Bite is a dark comedy that has you playing as a character called Noe, or you can rename them if you like, who’s a bit of a cryptid hunter.

on December 23, 2021 at 3:00 pm It’s been a truly stellar year for indie gaming, quite possibly one of the best we’ve ever had. There’s been highlight after highlight, and if you’ve been checking all of them out, you’ve likely not had time to do much else. Well, we’ve got another one for you to add to your list of must-plays called Archvale. It’s a fusion of RPG and bullet hell, which isn’t something we’d ever expect to work, but it does with aplomb.

on December 22, 2021 at 3:00 pm Outer Wilds came out in 2019, and has been one of those games that’s just never not been talked about since, at least when it comes to podcasts and whatnot. It’s probably underrated, but only because it’s the kind of game where you’re going to have to think and die a lot, and some people aren’t into that. It is, undoubtedly, excellent, and it’s the kind of game that fits well into any time off work that some of you lucky folks might be having right now.

However, thanks to the combo of both the Oculus Quest 2, and apps like Airlink and Virtual Desktop that allow you to connect to your PC using the headset wirelessly, it’s slowly becoming more affordable, and easier to manage.

on December 20, 2021 at 3:00 pm I recently splashed out and treated myself to an Oculus Rift 2, because it’s been an extraordinarily rubbish year, I’m tired, and I miss how visceral VR can feel. Plus, frankly, it’s a purer form of escapism, because I literally can’t perceive the world around me. Anyway, the long and short of that is that I now have a fancy new gadget to mess about with, but I also needed to buy some games to play on it.

If you’re wondering why there’s a capybara here, then don’t wonder, just enjoy it. As you’ll know from the post Lewis made, The Indie Game Website is, at least for now, taking a break. I’ve never written a post like this before, and while I could easily wax on about how important the site has been for me, I want to focus on the positive effect I think it has on the general industry.

on December 19, 2021 at 10:00 am The proliferation of “story-rich” as a game descriptor should be welcome news to folks who love narrative-driven games, but these days it has as much meaning as an advertisement for a gluten-free egg. Initial impressions of Aspire: Ina’s Tale were that it’s pretty, offers moments of engaging puzzle-solving, and has the earnest makings of a story, but even after several hours into the game, it’s all too generic to make much of an impact.
