2025 Winter Cup beam champion Tatum Drusch made an early statement this season by winning the 2026 American Classic, topping the All-Around field with a super-consistent day to finish with a 53.700. Leading the field from start to finish, her top scores came on beam (13.800) and vault (13.800). Drusch, who has committed to LSU, is coming back strong following a meniscus tear in 2025 and looks to do big things on the senior stage in 2026.

On Saturday, two-time Olympic gold medalist Jade Carey will make her official return to Elite competition at the 2026 American Classic. Carey, who confirmed her Elite comeback earlier this year is headlining the field, which also includes  four-time Junior U.S. National Team member, the 2011 Junior National Champion, and two-time NCAA Champion with UCLA, Katelyn Ohashi, as the women look to qualify for spots at the upcoming U.S. Championships August 6–9, 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona.

In December of 2025, Inside Gymnastics took a trip to the University of Alabama. We had the opportunity to watch the team practice in the weeks prior to the 2026 NCAA season. One freshman immediately stuck out to me as the next NCAA gymnastic star. Azaraya Ra-Akbar showcased an incredible combination of difficulty, execution, and poise throughout each event. The coaches and staff already had her in the anchor position or near the end of the lineup in all four events.
