Share VOA Honored at Association for International Broadcasting Awards Voice of America won big at the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) Awards during its ceremony on November 22 in London. In the “Short Documentary" category, VOA’s 52 Documentary series earned first place for the original film "Generation Kush." The documentary, released on March 21, highlights the alarming rise of the synthetic drug Kush, which is rapidly spreading among young people in Sierra Leone.

Share VOA Wins Gold at Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards Voice of America earned top prizes at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards during its ceremonies on September 25 and September 26.

Today Voice of America begins broadcasting to the Fulani-speaking audience in Africa. With an estimated population of more than 40 million across West and Central Africa, the Fula people are considered to be the world’s largest nomadic group. The inaugural Fulani language program, "Fula Voices" (“Daande Fulbe”), is a 30-minute radio show with a significant digital presence specifically designed for Fulani youth.

Share VOA Documentary Series Earns 2024 Online Journalism Award On August 16, the Online News Association awarded Voice of America with an Online Journalism Award for its digital video storytelling in the Series/Large Newsroom category. VOA’s documentary series, “52 Documentary,” earned the award for 22 films released in 2023 that showcase women’s stories from around the world as they confront injustices every day.

Voice of America welcomes home RFE/RL journalist Alsu Kurmasheva, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, and Washington Post contributor Vladimir Kara-Murza. Their unjust imprisonment highlights the urgent need to redouble efforts to protect the safety of journalists under threat simply for doing their jobs.

Share VOA Receives Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists The Society of Professional Journalists awarded the Voice of America on July 9 with a National Sigma Delta Chi Award for excellence in journalism. This honor recognizes outstanding work published or broadcast in 2023.

Since 2020, Voice of America’s story pitch contest provides VOA journalists with an opportunity to select and delve into topics in a long-form reporting format, honing their storytelling and production skills and sharing otherwise untold narratives. The 2024 contest produced three winning documentaries from the VOA Indonesian and Russian language services and the VOA News Center.

Share VOA Receives Second Arthur Rowse Award from National Press Club Today the National Press Club awarded Voice of America with the 2024 Arthur Rowse Award for Examining the News Media for its original coverage on press freedom. This year’s winning story, “Last of the Watchdogs,” is VOA Press Freedom journalist Liam Scott’s first major assignment at the network.

Today, the VOA Persian language service aired the first episode of it 10-part television series on the multicultural sounds of New York City’s music scene. Titled “NY Harmony,” the series is set at one of the city’s popular music venues, The Red Pavilion, while exploring a different music style in each episode. The program showcases live performances and interviews with musicians from many genres.
