EIA Expects Record Electricity Generation in 2026 and 2027
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects U.S. electricity generation will grow 2.2% to a record 4,368 billion kilowatthours (BkWh) this year. EIA expects an additional 1.7% growth in electricity generation next year. Electricity generation is rising to meet additional demand, which is particularly strong in the West South Central region, from data center development and increased manufacturing activity in the commercial and industrial sectors.
Black Bayou Energy Hub Announces $1.6 Billion Louisiana Expansion Along Growing LNG Corridor
Louisiana Economic Development (LED), September 10, 2026 Black Bayou Energy Hub, LLC announced a $1.6 billion investment to expand its Lafayette headquarters and develop critical natural gas infrastructure in Cameron Parish, strengthening Louisiana’s growing LNG corridor and supporting increasing demand from LNG exporters, power generators, utilities and manufacturers. Across both sites, the company is expected to create 23 direct new jobs and retain five existing positions.
Enbridge Acquires Tallgrass Crude Assets for $2.55 Billion
Enbridge has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the crude oil business of Tallgrass Energy for $2.55 billion in cash. The acquisition includes a 75% interest in the 1,050-mile Pony Express Pipeline, which moves ~460 kbpd of crude from Rockies production basins to Cushing, Oklahoma, providing direct access to ~500 kbpd of refining capacity.
Dangote Refinery Outlines $14.3 Billion Capacity Expansion Plan
Nigeria's Dangote oil refinery is initiating a $14.3 billion expansion program to double its processing capabilities. The facility currently operates at 700,000 barrels per day and targets a 1.4 million barrels per day capacity by 2029. This massive scaling effort coincides with an initial public offering designed to raise $1.63 billion. The refinery began operations in 2024 and quickly reshaped regional fuel markets.

Williams Completes Acquisition of Momentum Midstream
Williams (NYSE: WMB) today announced it has closed its acquisition of Momentum Midstream in a transaction valued at approximately $5.5 billion, expanding the company’s integrated natural gas infrastructure platform in the Haynesville to serve growing Gulf Coast LNG, power and industrial demand. The transaction includes approximately $3.5 billion of cash and debt consideration and roughly $2 billion of Williams’ equity.
